Anyone go from CX-9 to CX-5?

I would like to hear people's experiences having gone from a CX-9 to a CX-5. Looking at the 5 primarily to save $ on gas. My wife drives the CX-9, mostly city miles, and averages 16-16.5 mpg. We have 2 teens, the oldest will have her own car in 6 months, so the need for a 7 passenger has diminished. We did a short test drive, we both liked how the 5 drove and handled, but wondering if we will regret the space that the 9 gives. I liked that the back seat of the 5 seems farther off the floor, at least me being 6' my legs went down instead of straight out. The center hump is a little disconcerting - I'm thinking the 5 is mostly a 4 passenger car. Trunk space seems adequate. No console rear air vents seems like bad design choice. Also driver's arm rest is very (too) low compared to the 9. But willing to make some sacrifices for better mpg without having to go to a sedan. We will also be checking out a CRV later this week for comparison.

Anyway, just open to people's thoughts and experiences.
