anyone ever tried non-garret turbos?

Yea I just got an ATP WGA and I think I'll wait to install it until I find an upgraded downpipe since it would be stupid to take that stuff off 2 more times just for fun haha.

my HiBoost kit came with a Masterpower t3/t4. masterpower is brazilian, quality seems alright. i've researched them and found out they have a QC problem, some turbos were made perfectly, others had a lot of unfinished parts

fyi - masterpowers USA distributor lists their journal bearing stuff for about 610, garrett through ATP is about 700.

youve had no issues to date? do you know if they use any garrett parts/factory seconds?

only problem i've had was on cold starts when oil pressure is around 80 psi, it spits oil out of the tailpipe. i have not seen any amount of oil in the IC pipes tho to raise concern.

i do not know if they use garrett parts. my turbo is a journal bearing tho.

i forget where i saw the review, but some are fiished better than others. try googling masterpower. i might have gotten one of the slightly better quality turbos.

EDIT: ive had the turbo on since OCT 08, about 30k miles.

From what I have heard from guys in the biz the BW turbos seem very well made and reliable + decent price. Also hearing good stuff about the Precision turbos.

well id hope BW made good stuff, theyre OEM on a lot of things. ill have to take a look into precision. im sure youve seen a lot of cars come and go through the business, any of them run non-garrett stuff?

yeah borg warner makes good stuff. ive been tryin to find a direct fit high flow fuel pump from them.

they also have a new turbo design that has extended tips that increases the effeciency so you can have a lighter and smaller compressor wheel, yet still flow a ton of air. i read up on it a while ago. SRT-4 guys have been going nuts over them because they spool like stock yet are able to make like 400-500hp. i might get one of them

as for turbo manufacturers, doesnt hitachi make the one that comes stock on the FC rx7?
