nice portraits!

actually, I don't have a case for my SLR. I have another camera that I use underwater. it's a sealife DC500. 5MP PnS camera with an external strobe. I really want a housing for my SLR, but they are like $1300, and I'm planning on upgrading to the 50d soon anyway... maybe I'll get a case for that.

that dive was probably about 80 feet. Honestly, I never look at my depth anymore. I only watch my tank pressure, and sometimes the temperature when it feels really cold. I've been diving for 3 years and I am open water, advanced open water, nitrox, and rescue diver certified! Just one more of my expensive hobbies. I do like how diving and photography over lap though.

I feel ya on the expensive hobbies:

Flying
Cars
Photography

Luckily photography and cars/flying can be combined, but rarely all three together. Sometimes I get lucky though:

dude you will be in shock at the shutter speeds you can get at 1.8

I was driving home last night in the pitch black with my ISO at 100, f1.8 taking pictures of cars at 1/60 of a second. it's amazing.

DOF is minuscule though.

I think the 50 is more practical. For just a walk around lens, you still have to back up all the time.

for portraits, the 85 is probably better, but you must have to stand miles away from your people.

Not really.. I guess it depends on what you want to do. Comparing 85 with the 50 was night and day for me. The 85 was much sharper at 1.8 then the 50mm at 1.8

I got my 1.8 for $80

1.4 will run you around $350

1.2 is like $1,400

So, like 20 times the price LOL..that's even worst. I sold my 50mm 1.8 and saving for a 85mm 1.8 But I might go L prime..we'll see. I still have to rebuild my motor :P
