I can almost guarantee you that you nor I will ever see that day that nikon or canon makes a SLR that is not backwards compatible with all previous lenses.

When I say that I mean the mounts will not change. Focusing and auto metering may not work but they will ALL mount and be able to take pictures.

With they ever release a non-compatible both will have thrown away usage of millions of lenses. Not going to happen.

And to people looking for new cameras visit Ken Rockwell.

I have two canons with lenses that will not mount to the other camera.

If you got a 17-55 and a 70-200 I promise you that you will not miss the difference in between!!

And the constant 2.8 will make up for "short comings" you may find.

I've been thinking about the 17-55 IS. I just want a REALLY good short lens (L-series quality) for car / static shots. I also desparately want that 50mm 1.4, but I can't justify the cost right now. I think my next two lenses are going to be the 100-400L IS followed by the 17-55 IS...

The thing is, once you buy the lenses you need, you're pretty much set for awhile. I've had my 16 35 2.8L and 70 200 2.8L IS for 5 years. I recently got the 24 70 2.8L. I've had the 50 1.4 for a year but rarely use it. Beyond these basic lenses, there's not much else I 'need.' Same goes with lighting gear.

I would pretty much kill for that combo!! Then maybe a nice fast ultra wide lens to finish it off.

Not everyone.

I don't have an ultra fast lens for wide angle but my EFS 10-22mm is an awesome lens. I love it..and probably would not get rid of it. I'd have all my "range" covered.

10-22, 24-70, 70-200(hopefully) and then carry the 85mm 1.2 as a prime portrait lens
