Any A/C people?

So I have this weird little problem with my A/C. For the most part, it works fine, but there's a little area when I switch the speed setting to 2 where the LED flickers, and if I catch it just right, the A/C won't come on at all. When that happens, I just play with the speed setting knob a little bit until the LED comes back on and everything works fine. I'm hoping this is a simple fix that maybe I could do myself, since going to the dealer is such an all day ordeal. Thanks.

I had that problem.. only it was in fresh air mode only and happened in all speeds. I switched it to recirc mode once and after I switched it back its worked perfectly ever since. weird.. and I have taken the whole unit in and out a few times for the LCD molding.

I have done the recirc thing a couple times too. Still does it. Well, if the weekend rolls around and nobody has a fix, I'll take it in to the d'ship and let y'all know what's going on (assuming they acknowledge the problem and fix it).

I had that problem. Took it to the dealer to get it fixed under warranty. They replaced the whole control set, and it didn't fix it. In doing so, they mis-adjusted the heater controls and forgot to hook the hazard switch back up.
Having decided that dealership was full of morons, I went to a different dealer, who refused to fix it since they weren't the ones who messed it up. Smiling through his four teeth the whole time. Scratch dealer #2.
Went to a third dealer, they said no problem on fixing it, but when I got it back, the heater controls were mis-adjusted in the opposite direction and THE FUCKERS HAD SMOKED IN MY CAR! That was when I made up my mind and sold it.


So, back ON topic, it's a legit problem, but I never got it solved. I do know it most likely isn't the dash controller set, although the replacement I got could very well have been bad as well.

mine has a/c button has put on a light show for me a few times. I never noticed it not working, i just thought the light was bad......

Mine did it. I pitched a fit and got the dealer to replace the whole set of controls. My air control cable, too, wasn't 100%.

It still does it a little when going from 1 - 2, but not nearly as bad.

Old thread. I know there have been a few other ones created since this one, but I thought I'd respond in my own thread. Basically, Mazda knows nothing about this problem. I emailed them, they said "take it to the dealer." Took it to the dealer, and they're just going to install a new unit. They tried other P5s in their lot as well and many of them also had the same flicker problem, which seems to suggest that it's more of a problem with the way Mazda is making their AC units and less of a case by case problem. The dealer's not going to take the time to research what's really wrong (which is why they're just giving me a new unit), so I think we'll have to get Mazda NA's attention if we want any real work done on it.

Does anybody know anything about getting good Mazda corporate people to look into this?

Hopefully they get it down to exactly the cause, I would feel very bad for the tech that has to go into my center dash.
