anouther big problem

alright i used to love my p5 but now it is starting to piss me off. in a 4 month period i have had a new moter put in and now it is sittin in my drive way stuck in 3rd. it seems im goin to get a new trns. one more strike and the p5 is gone and srt is next in line.

burning it. they have to give u a full refund on your car after a couple of major screw ups so this makes two. and when they give me my check im driven down the road and putting it on a yellow srt. if it works out.

You have misunderstood how the lemon law works. The engine and transmission do not count as two strikes. You would have to require three fixes for the SAME PROBLEM with one or the other.

In Alabama, much like in other states, one of two things has to occur:

1. Three or more attempts, ultimately unsuccessful, to fix the same problem.

2. More than 30 days total in the shop, again to fix a single issue.

In either case the first repair must occur during the first two years/24,000 miles. You get refunded a prorated amount of the purchase price based on 100,000 miles.

No doubt if they can prove abuse they're off the hook. I suspect it's not hard for a manufacturer to avoid a lemon law claim on a manual transmission.

black&chrome.....I live in Alabama and they don't have to do dick to your car. How many miles are on it? Do you have any modifications? Can you verify with receipts that all maintaince work has been done to it? What dealership did you buy from or have it serviced at. I used to work fro MedCenter so let me know if you want me to make a call for you.

its an auto. buy i was told that as long as it was brought in 3 times to get worked on then the lemon law came in. i guess i just misunderstood. i bought it from john crump in jasper. and i have just put 10,800 miles on it i had the oil changed tuesday. and i have all recepts from every thing that has been done. the only mod ws a set of subs. every thing elese is factory. around 7,000 is when i got a new motor. i called them this morning and im waiting for a roll back now. thanks for the details confus3d. if any one elese knows more please let me know.

If the auto trans fails two more times, and they cannot seem to fix it, you've got a case. Doesn't seem likely since people haven't been reporting scads of transmission failures with this car.

Ditto the engine.

The 30 days bit seems more likely.

At any rate, my sense is that lemon laws kick in much more often for niggly little problems the dealer can't figure out how to fix. Electrical especially.

A friend of mine could have lemon lawed a Passat a few years back. It kept blowing a fuse, and for months the dealer could not figure out why. VW ended up offering to buy the car back for the prorated amount--a few grand less than he paid. But at the last minute a VW technician thought to check the fuse. It turned out someone at the factory had put a 10A in when it was supposed to be a 15A--and the dealer never caught this. They just kept putting a 10A back in. VW was still willing to buy back the car, but he decided to keep it.

i've heard from a few ppl that the auto seems to have a few kinks in it....i drive the manual myself and the only problem i've had is that i burn out too much...but then again thats my fault ;)

John Crump is a GOOD dealership. They'll do their best to take care of you. I go to them when med center and trussville give me s*** about mods. they know me and how I drive. They also realize that sometimes s*** just breaks.

someone who doesn't like thier car and wants to get rid of it...

...doesn't this belong in the MSP section :D?

alright just got back from the dealership. they ran a few test and said that the sensor for the shifter went bad. they gave me a long ass name for it. but they kept messin with it for a while and showed me how to shift the car with the censor messed up. i asked about my radio not working and they checked my fuse. when they replaced the fuse the car started shifting like nothin was wrong. come to find out that the radio and the elec. shift are all on the same circut. now i have a pack of 20amp mini fuses in my car. but if any one else runs into this problem with the auto. and u dont have a fuse. the plug by the shifter pops out and take a flat head screw driver and push down. then the car will shift.

Interesting coincidence that the lemon law example I described involved fuses. Make sure it's supposed to be 20A.

Or could those subs you installed be the cause? Do they get their power from this circuit? If so, you might need a higher rated fuse.

Also interesting that once again a dealer fails to find the true cause of the problem when it's a simple fuse. They ran "a few tests?" Geez. Top notch diagnostics. Kind of makes you want to keep going there when it's your dime, eh?

yea it does make u wonder. but the subs i dont think they had anything to do with it. i have a 4ga. wire run for them. the only connection they have is through the rca jacks. and i had the subs out when the fuse went. i just cant help but to wonder y the fuse blew.

I know nothing about wiring, so I don't know what you mean by a 4ga wire. Separate circuit from the rest of the stereo? If the subs were out when the fuse blew, that would seem to rule them out.

What was going on when the fuse blew? Was this while you were driving? I assumed not.

Maybe it was just a bad fuse? If they keep blowing, and 20A is the correct rating (should say in the lid and/or owner's manual), then clearly something else is going on. If they can't find the real problem in three tries, then you can lemon law it.

i ran the 4 ga. wire from my batery with its on fuse to the amp to give it power. buti was driveing when it happend. i had a guy on my ass and nailed the gas to get him away from me then the radio quit working about the time my car down shifted pputing it into third. but i dont think i will get a srt4 if this goes on while i ws a t the dealer ship i was checkin out the new m3 and they are a sweet ride pretty much a p5 with more ponies. i like that. it dont really matter about the lemon law in anouther year i can get out of the p5 and trade it for anouther mazda.
