another surge problem

In other words....don't boost in low RPMs. 3000to 3500 rpm you should be ok. In 5th gear keep the boost to a minimum, 5 psi at most. 10psi is just really uneeded at this level and will only destroy your engine.

I never gun it unless I'm gunning it. Understand? If you want to take off 1st to 2nd to 3rd with your foot to the floor... you should be ok. But 3rd to 4th to 5th trying to gun it...at low RPM's is just asking for trouble.

You can still get fuel cut in Florida. Especially in the early morning when the temps are in the mid 30's. Boosting in 5th is no more harmful than boosting in any gear. Unless you are one of those drivers that uses 5th gear to soon. I don't use 5th unless I'm on the highway or able to go above 70 mph.

True. You can use boost in lower gears...you just need to watch how much and never put your foot to the floor. In stock form atleast. Making the turbo spool before the engine rpms even start opening up and is one step to kaboom you dont want.

A million things could be your problem. My guess is since your car is bone stock it is a vac leak. Why no CEL? Because the problem occurs under boost. Will a boost gauge help...probably not. Why? if a vac leak was bad enough to be seen at idle on a boost gauge you will likely have a CEL anyways. My protege has reached and sustained boost on my guage w/ a vac leak as well. Your not getting a CEL because your not constantly hammering your car in fourth gear. Circumstantial drivability issues are usually not given a light because they are viewed as anomalies and obd systems are designed w/ tolerance for such. In other words go to your dealer while you still have 8k in warranty left and drive the service tech around until you make the condition you describe happen.
