All Wheel Drive

i called corksport when i got my p5 about a year and a half ago and they told me they could get every thing i would need for to do the AWD swap for 7 grand

I talked to Corksport yesteday. They are attempting to piece together a kit for me and they will let me know a final price when they get all the info. I'll try and keep everyone updated as to the progress. I have decided to do the AWD conversion before doing my turbo. When I get the ball rolling I'll post another thread titled "The Birth of the WRX Killer". Wish me luck and be patient...my budget is going to make his a very long process.

 NO! why would you think that?

short version: the engine has more stuff to turn, therefore the car loses more power btw the crank and the wheels.

IIRC, the AWD 227hp WRX dynos equal or lower hp at the wheels than a FWD 200hp RSX-S...

Yeah, I can see that it makes sense. I got that from a very unreliable source, anyway - he drives a 2002 Honda Civic LX, automatic. Not that that really means anything, but then again...

I guess what's really the question now, is why would you get AWD?

just give up
IT CANNOT BE DONE

the 4WD Sport20's floor pan is COMPLETELY different
the engine mounts are different
the suspension is completely different
the tranny is different
the seat rails are different
the gas tank is different
the shifter is different
the fuel system is different
the emissions system is different
the exhaust system is different

the car is basically different except for how it looks like, want to know more? ;)

i bet it would actually be cheaper to just buy a sport 20 and have it imported:p 16k for the car plus 7k for the kit. good lawd dat a lot of money!!!!!

actually now that i think about it, it would be easier to just buy the sport 20 and cost the same

this took way too long to type

just give up
IT CANNOT BE DONE
Ah...words of encouragement..spoken like a true enthusiast. If everybody thought like that we would be driving neons because anything cooler would just be impossible.

the 4WD Sport20's floor pan is COMPLETELY different
I've looked under there. There is room and if its in the way you cut it, move it, and relocate it. Believe me I've spent hours under my car looking, and considering.
the engine mounts are different
Hmm...seems to me that the AWD transmission had the same J-spec motor bolted to it that fits in all the Proteges. Anyway...I know what a welder looks like.
the suspension is completely different
Its 35mm shorter...I'm not sure about the mounting, but I'm sure if Corksport can find the parts..UPS can find my house.
the tranny is different
the gas tank is different
I guess its a good thing I'll be getting those straight from Japan then isn't it.
the seat rails are different
This is the least of my worries...and I'm sure that the Japanese aren't sitting on buckets. This stuff isn't on another planet.
the shifter is different
If all else failes...looks like I'll be calling in all the favors my local machine shops owe me.
the fuel system is different
So it has an extra fuel pump that pumps gas from one side of the split gas tank to the other...ooohhh..rocket science.
the emissions system is different
I could care less...the person that inspects my emission system can just stick the probe up another car's pipe and print me a sticker.
the exhaust system is different
Oh man...I forgot...no one in the world knows how to bend pipes and weld brackets.

You can push the limits of what is possible with mirrors and motor mounts...I'm doing something else.

I'm sure you have, as a constant reminder is the hands down king of rally racing, the WRX. [/B]

Ummm......I am trying to think back to when a Subaru last won the WRC. Nope, I think the Peugot takes that crown for now.

the true key is the center dif and rear dif. you can fab everything else. gas tank? strong sheet aluminum. exhaust? custom pipes. driveline linkages? custom pieces with welded u-joints.

it looks good on paper, but may be hard to impliment. xelderx, if you go through with it, let me know. i'm very interested in this conversion. i have been since i bought my msp.

perhaps I wasn't being too clear to some people...

when I say different, I mean radically different... I can't even begin to say what is different... I can spend a whole month looking up all the different stuff... I HAVE the info
the whole suspension system is different, not just the springs and struts
the emissions system is different in that how stuff is routed will cause the 2WD stuff NOT to work... if you plan on ditching it, don't plan on driving the car on the street and don't plan on using a stock ECU either
the 4wd tranny bolts up alright, getting the driveshaft to the car is a different story
the shifter is a cable shifter

if you plan on ditching it, don't plan on driving the car on the street and don't plan on using a stock ECU either

Hopefully Spoolin will have that Microtech finished soon. Cable shifter...just need a new shifter then I guess...no biggie. I don't know why having a different emission system would make it un streetable in the US. Remember it doesn't have to be legal...you guys can keep a secret right?

and that's surprising?

hmm... who drives the WRX and Evo now? those two cars won a few years ago because of the DRIVERS

Umm, Tommy couldn't keep up with the Peugeots in his Evo. Richard Burns was slower in the Peugeot than his teammate, despite being the reining world champ. It's not ALL driver.

Wow, my reply did come out kind of harsh

Sarcasm + Beer will do that :D

It would be nice to see some 206's here though.

I would not argue with that statement

except that Puegot has the best car AND Marcus is easily the best driver right now. no wonder they win. (although Loeb is hella good too).

looks like this thread has been highjacked...

tommi is definitely on his way out as his skills are fading fast..i really think some of the young guys are about to bust out...solberg has been consistantly getting better and loeb has put on a good show...but to face facts peugeot has just put together a great car...i think subaru is still in the changing stage after bringing out the new models (what they really need to do is make a coupe again)...and this year mitsu has not put much into their rally program (financially and personnel wise)...
