2006 Mazda 3i
I bought a 2006 Mazda 3 I sedan Saturday and it came with one key and no remote so I figured out from reading that it should have a lock and unlock remote so I set out to buy one online but ran into a problem it says I have to know if I need a KPU41846 or a KPU41794 I don't have a clue the book also said in my owners manual that there was a tag that came with the keys with a code to be stored in a safe place. Well it was stored so safely that I don't know where they put it so now what? I have a best friend that works at a Mazda dealer in the parts dept. could he help me find this code? or what should I do. I went to one store and there key machine said my key had a transmiter inside and would cost 70 bucks for a blank but their machine wasn't capable of cutting my key. .......????? oh well that's why I came to the experts here. I know someone will know.

thanks in advance

The dealer can make you another key my area dealer made me 2 for like $60 I think (i'ts been a while). As far as that code goes I would say that your buddy in the parts dept can find out how to get it.

The keys have a little microchip in them that transmit to the ignition whether or not this is a valid, authorized key...helps prevent theft...a ford item.
As far as the remotes go, try buying both...I bought both on ebay last summer for less than $20 for both of them, and its super easy to program the remote

got my remote but it will not program no matter what I try any ideas? I actually got in shut the door then opened it cycled the key 3 times closed and opened the door 3 times and nothing happened like it said would so I closed the door 4 times and nothing I was going to press the remote button 2 times if the locks cycled after closing and opening the door????????????????? crazy. Do all 3s have remote locks ????? I read that most do, they just all don't have theft deterent systems. Any ideas?

thanks,

Maybe disconnect the battery? So as to start the programming process over? I'm stumped!
