Does anyone know where I could find a more comfortable headrest for the CX7? No need for LCD screens, just one that doesn't force your head forward as the factory ones do.

Just tilt you seat back a little and you won't even notice them....that's what I do!! Just an idea.

flip it up turn it around slap it in

Pull it out flip it around and put it back in
presto

^^^^ I tried this, and it is better, but still not good. Now intestead of having my head pushed straight up forward, it can flop around wherever it wants. THis is my only gripe about this car, the headrests SUCK!

Reversing the head restraint would scare the crap out of me. I used to work in automotive seating and reversing the head rest (short for restraint, not meant for resting the head) can adversly effect crash test ratings, particularly rear impact type collisions but could also from front in a rebound situation. As such, I would advise not to reverse the head restraint.

FWIW, the government is starting to mandate, or at least is about to, that all head restraints be something like 25 mm (about an inch) away IIRC in design position. This will make almost all h/rests too close when sitting in a more vertical seat back position. I imagine this is why your wife doesn't like the h/rest position. This drove me nuts when I test drove an Edge, but I didn't notice too much with the Mazda. Although it is very close.

You may want to measure the head rest stakes to determine the width appart and look at the height retention method and see if an older style Mazda would work in its place. HTH.

I think it is foolish to move a head rest farther from your head making in useless in a crash.

But if this does not bother you. Just push the button and remove them as moving them farther back makes them useless anyway.

(naughty)

Your head shouldn't be touching the head rest when you are driving.

Wrong.

Significant Points
1. Headrests only effective when positioned correctly relative to the driver's head
2. NHTSA research concludes a correctly positioned headrest should meet following criteria:
3. Headrests should ideally be positioned 2" or less from rear of driver's head
4. Never more than 4"
5. When adjusting for height, bulk of headrest should stand directly behind driver's head, at ears level
6. Too many people are driving w/ headrests in the lowest possible position

Ok I guess I should have said your head doesn't HAVE to be touching the headrest. Thus it won't affect the angle of the drivers head.
