Advice on todays dyno

Im getting my ms3 dynoed today for the first time, and wanted to make sure I was going to go in prepared. Its a well respected shop here in town, but I doubt theres been enough local experience on this car for the tuner to make the final call on the setup.

Is it generally agreed, that a 4th gear pull, with the hood closed is the way to go? Fans on in front?

Ive got a MS CAI, and some sweet new tint if it matters. lol.

I'll be posting results later with this setup...... BTW...Im pumped!!!!!

Put some ice on the IC and et it sit for atleast an hour before the pull. that will cool it down.
Have fun with the dyno, i do suggest you do one dyno pull with the hood up so you can watch all the movement in the motor. Might make you upgrade those motors mounts ;)

Huh? Dealers can't be out of those can they?!
there are not out but they have them for 350....and im not payin 350 when i know its available for 300...there are gona charge me 95 to install it which isnt big deal but im gona wait and get one online then bring it in for install

Dont put ice on the IC...Im sure you want ot see what your car is putting down on a normal day.Sure you could put ice or dry ice or even put a fan directly on the IC but that is not going to give you your cars true HP.Just dyno it like you said in your first post with the hood closed and a fan in front of the car.If you want everyone to think you have more HP then what you have then do a pull in 3rd gear and pile high a bunch of ice on the IC and a hugh fan ontop of that and then you can show everyone what kinda numbers your car doesnt really have.I would like to know what kinda power my car is making during normal conditions and not fake conditions.
It may be a good idea to leave the hood open on 1 pull to see how much the engine moves like 4banger said.
Enjoy...

Agreed to the ice thing.

box fan from walmart would do.

dyno in 4th gear.. start sampling at 2krpms

Thanks guys. Im leaving now, and I'll give ya the goods in a couple hours. Im annoyed I didnt get it done before the CAI, but with what I plan in the next couple months for my car.....

a dyno now is a must!!

I dont have my hopes up too high because this dynojet supposedly reads a little low. My new neighbor(building a house and GARAGE!!! next to mine) is one of the top honda racers on the east coast and builds/ tunes/ races every weekend. He told me this dyno reads about 20 horses light whenever hes been on it.

Anyway. Off I go.

go off right from the street so then you get everyday numbers..why would you want some fake scenario #s..
oh well

What you guys fail to remmebr is at freway speed the Air going over the IC will really cool the IC down. NO FAN can simulate freeway speed.
icing the IC down would bring in better figures that are more realistic. IMO

either way a dyno is only a tool. As long as you do the same runs time and time again on the SAME machine you can actually track progress.

Well. The deed is done.

Best run..

251.2 hp
264.2 torque

This was actually the third run and I know it could have been better(heatsoak to some degree). I screwed up the first two runs... started WOT too late, getting the hang of the dang thing.

Run three felt good though.

Hood closed, two big ass fans blowing at the front of the car, and pulls in 4th gear.

This dyno as earlier stated has a rep for dynoing a little low, but quite frankly I was VERY happy with my "baseline" with the MS intake as my only mod.

My scanner is not working right now for some reason and my wife is not home to fix it :( But I'll get the pics up later.

Thats not so bad..I was hoping to see it in the 260s Hp range like some others here with CAI.Like you said tho,It may be reading less Hp then it really is.
How much did they charge you for all 3 pulls?

For $75, I got three pulls, with A/F, in Greensboro, NC. The shop was Turbo Tune. Its been around 20 years and the tuner there (Mark) has a great reputation.

As far as being in the 260's... Im just glad I got 250's considering it was the third run before I actually ran the damn car right. And that was after back to back runs 5 minutes earlier, where I was basically trying to dyno every gear from 1st through 4th to redline :) whoops.

Plus, I showed my neighbor my plots and he was blown away.... he has dynotuned using this machine, and believes firmly it is 10-20 low for a dynojet. Plus 88 degrees today....

just so many factors, I guess.

Im just glad I didnt get a 230 lemon stinker. At least now I know my car is "in the pack", as I move forward to future mods.

sopme people were getting 230 with cai?

Ive seen alot of dynos in the 215-230 range, stock. I guess what I meant was that Im glad I didnt have something in that ballpark or even in the 240's with the CAI.

I ran 251/264, in normal, summertime, revved to hell, road conditioned heatsoak.... on a "no bulls***" dyno. Im pleased with it.

As was stated earlier..... with ice on the intercooler, on my first run in a cool car, on a dyno that might run a little high, on a day in the 40's.... my car might have dynoed in the 270's. So what though.

Im happy with the numbers.... AND how this car feels. Before and AFTER the intake went on. The power is there.

Sorry to bring this back from about 2 weeks ago but did you ever get a chance to load your dyno graph? I'd like to see it in the futire if you can? Thanks.

My car dynoed 221/257 with a cpe cai

dyno numbers dont mean s***. go to the track and ill compare your 260whp cars track times with my little "221whp" cars times. You can inflate numbers all you want on a dyno. Let me guess, you WERE NOT on a dyno dynamics? Were you on a dynojet or mustang??

Kids these days... I could go to a different local shop that doesnt have a very accurate dyno, then ask them to use sae correction etc and I can get a printout of 260whp for sure.

What the heck is this response supposed to mean? If youd read the thread I was responding to someone who questioned the power in my car because it DIDNT run in the 260's. I was using your own logic to show why my numbers were NOT inflated.

It was run on a dynojet which I know runs higher than a dyno dynamics, so whats your point.

Further, dyno numbers DO mean "s***". They give you a ballpark compared to the range of other numbers that come in, on the dynos in comparison. Then using common sense of your own conditions, car, pulls, circumstances you can then get a baseline both for now and future pulls with additional mods.

Isnt that why you got your dyno?

And finally, Im not a "kid". I didnt appreciate the underhanded lob, insinuating that Im some ricer bench racer, hyping up my 250hp dyno queen.

I was just sharing what I viewed to be the facts, and circumstances of my first dyno. It was fun and I wanted to share. Sorry I upset you considering your car had such a "low" result. And I would relish the oppurtunity to race you in the 1/4.... assuming our cars both have roughly the same power, it would probably be a good race. I view your self confidence regarding your driving skills, as a potential oppurtunity to get your ass and ego handed to you on a platter, as I consider myself a fairly accomplished driver myself:)
