Advanced Keyless Entry Annoying w/o Touch Sensors??

Wife's Camry Hybrid has the advanced keyless system where you simply walk up to the vehicle and grab the door handle. Now that I have to push the request button on the Mazda, pushing the request button on the Camry while grabbing the handle drives it nuts. Beeps for 5 seconds - at least.

So you are saying you don't mind the button and its functionality on the Mazda?

Not annoying at all.... I am still trying to get used to the non-button version on the GX... my Infiniti is similar to Mazda. I wish the other cars had walk away feature. I like that feature.

Can you adjust the time delay for walk away auto lock?

No, you cannot.
I like that feature very much. My car used to never be locked. It's always locked now. I like that it beeps to let you know it's locked. If I don't hear the beep it means I left my key in the car.

So in that case, how long after you leave the car does it auto lock?

I think it is distance based more than anything for the auto-lock. If I am within ~ half a meter of car it won't auto-lock but beyond it will.

Actually I tested that and it's not true. I left the key on top of the car and walked away. It did lock.
What's this setting?

Ooh! Good to get clarification. Thanks (thumb)

Must be a new '16+ option... my '15 doesn't work that way. There is the Auto Relock option on my model where if someone accidentally hits the unlock button on remote it will auto-lock in a short period of time.

EDIT: As long as my FOB is within stated distance it will never auto-lock.... in an OFF situation.

Could be. At any rate, auto lock feature (which ever way it works) is good feature to have

My 2012 VW JSW had the touch sensors on the door handles. A pad inside the handle for unlocking and a pad on the outside for locking. I really liked that system better than Mazda's single button, but hey, I got used to the Mazda system.

I'm guessing it sets the time period if you unlock the car and don't open a door, it'll relock the car after that amount of time.

Edit: and I just noticed Kedis answered that one.

The walk away lock feature has 2 beeps. There's the car acknowledging you are outside of the car and all doors are closed beep. Then when you are far enough away it will lock and beep again.

When I leave the car I make sure to hear the first beep before walking away. If I don't it's probably because I walked away too quickly for it to sense me outside.

I suppose it could be different with the 17. But, as I said here earlier, and in the other thread, it is time based, not distance based.

Unless I'm misunderstanding the manual and based on my limited experience, the auto-lock feature is proximity based for the 2017 MY.

To the OP - I have used the button on CX-5, there is a bit annoyance when you dont lock it with the button and use the inner switch. It does not sync up.
If I locked using inner switch and came back and hit the outer button - it actually locks it again (since i never used the door handle button to lock the car).

Never used the Auto lock feature and not even sure which trim it is on. But a few times my car was not locked as i expected. This was in first 2 months of ownership. Now it is locked everytime (hopefully).

Ease of use is good, another thing on 16.5 was - you could walk up to trunk and open it, need not press any button. Not sure what the trunk button did.

Sounds like the double deadlock feature is occurring.

I'm still trying to get used to the system - being right handed, I usually carry stuff (say, a small bag of items from the grocery store) in my left hand. The button is easiest to push with your left hand thumb, while gripping the handle, Once it unlocks, just open with same hand. What I wind up doing though is either shifting what I'm carrying from left to right hand, or turning my hand upside down to use button and handle with right hand. Either way, it's a little awkward. And then, if you need to unlock passenger door, it takes two presses of the button to do that, and my timing is way off on that one half the time. I don't get the delay for the second press right and wind up just unlocking from the inside. Unimpressive.

To open the locked lift gate, you have to reach to the right and feel around for the unlock button, press it, then find the latch in the middle to open it. Both are hidden and you have to find by feel.

I'm aware I could skip all that and just use the remote, but most of the time it's buried in my purse and NOT having to dig it out to get in and start the car is what I like best about the feature. So, I continue to stumble around with buttons and handles to avoid doing that.

I would dig it out to open the hatch, though, if it had that feature. I know, difference between 16.5 and 17............
