Adding a factory Nav?

I have an 06 Mazdaspeed 6 Sport. I got a good deal on it, but the one thing I wanted but didn't get was navigation. I don't really want to go the Tom Tom route or try to hack up my factory stereo to install an in dash unit. Is there any chance of getting a factory unit through a dealer? Anyone know how difficult that would be to install or what parts would be required. Thanks...(drive2)

Don't bother. Get yourself a Garmin Street pilot. Miles ahead of whats in the Mazda in terms of flexibility and ease of use. (I do know, I have both)

I don't like the portables. Just don't look right in my opinion.

Anyone think it would be possible to obtain the factory navigation opening apparatus and install a double din navigation system in the factory location?

Your aware that the factory nav is like a $2K option ... and involves running wiring from the dash to the trunk for the DVD map reader.

Yes...and most decent in dash units are $1500 - $2000. I'm not saying it would be easy, I'm asking if anyone has tried to locate the necessary parts. I'm guessing that's a no.

I'm sure the dealer could/would install it for you. Just be prepared to pay $10X what you would pay for a good portable by the time it's all said and done.

Gonna be real expencive going from part #'s to part #'s to retrofit it in. Just the integrated fog lights in the 6s headlights is $1500 in parts alone. I would say get a turbo II dash kit but you might have to paint the center console to match it.

I realize that I could do something like the turbo kit, even though that may be a problem with the Bose.

All I really want to get is the mechanism to raise and lower the navi compartment. Then I can fit my own custom LCD screen in there and wire up a separate navi system or dvd player in the trunk. I figure since the navi is now available in the regular 6 and the MS6 Sport, it may be more available. I basically just need the piece that replaces the compartment in the dash.

Well I went to the Mazda dealership. You can't buy the screen separate, you have to buy the whole navigation package for the low low price of $3200.

I did find this though:

Thought that looked promising.

Now the thing is did you find a price(US $) for that? There was also a face plate where you could place a aftermarket radio in that exact same place on that site, but it ran $300 before s&h. Best bet is maybe doing the screen and indpendant unit as you mentioned in the quote below seeing that mazda won't even warrenty that navi system unless you pay them the "low low price" in labor to install it in your car. If you don't feel comfortable with DIY and not liking the local shops instal price, best bet is the portable glass mount style one.

Bose is the issue at hand lol. Once you go turbo II, bose is exposed for it's sub par performance. Some have replaced all speakers(with quality ones) and got a aftermarket amp(quality) to run the aftermarket sub(also quality) in the old sub's place. lil bit costly but sound quality has been worth it for most members here. Mazda 3 guys were able to get just the flip up screen, so see if parts dept will also do it for the 6.

Where did you see the Mazda 3 guys finding it? All I read was that they were stuck in the same boat. I asked the dealership, they guy said he could only order the entire package.

Someone actualy found part #s for theirs.

*edit* found the original thread...dealers wouldn't order it piece by piece.

Yeah...that's what I found too. I have the part numbers, hell I have a full schematic, but they won't separate it. What the hell is supposed to happen if someone with a nav breaks their screen?

maybe it's on the same lines as the gauge cluster where they do an even swap + labor unless it's still covered.

Can you please post up the schematic or tell me where I can get it as well as the part numbers. Thank You.

mazdaparts.com carries a stock of them (at least for the RX-8 at this time). You should check with them regarding getting this piece for the M6/MS6 community.

I suggested mazdaparts.com as they are ordering in bulk and offer great prices. Plus since they keep some pieces in stock (at least for the RX-8 for now), it should take less time for you to get it.
