Accident ..

Well, had my first accident ever. Not just first in the MSP -- I mean first EVER. I'm kinda thankful it was in the MSP, I'm absolutely fine .. but my baby isn't.

I'm not even sure what happened. I was going around an uphill right-hand curve around 40mph -- the posted speed limit was 35mph -- and I felt one of my back tires hit something. My best guess is loose gravel, cause there were potholes. The back end completely lost grip and spun out to the left. I did a 180 degree turn, and the back left end slammed up against the guard rail.

It all happened within a span of 10 seconds, I'd say, if that. I didn't even have time to react. I felt the back end go, and the next thing I knew I was in the guard rail.

The back left tail light is gone. The back left bumper is detached and has a hole ripped through it right at the corner. Looks like I'll probably wind up having to replace the bumper, the lip, the gas cap door thing, and that back corner panel. But, by some miracle of God, no damage to the wheel. Not even a scuff mark on the tire. The trunk seems fine, too -- just a bit squished to the right due to the fact that my back left end was crumpled in.

I guess, all in all, I hit the 'best' part I could of my MSP. Didn't mess up the front (hence the engine) or any of the doors, or even the back right which would've ****** up my exhaust. It drives just fine, too. I just .. have my back bumper hanging off.

I'm going to try to get somewhere on Monday for estimates .. but hey, just for some fun, anyone have any idea how much this'll probably run me to get repaired?

I feel your pain man, mine was taken from me Wed. I bet it'll be 3k+ to fix though.

Tail Light, quarter panel, gas door, inner fender well possibly, rear bumper(maybe just paint) and minor trunk work. Is the trunk still latched?

Good to hear that you're ok (if you weren't you probably wouldn't be posting). It will probably be a lot since I think the rear quarter goes all the way up to the A-pillar (damn unibodies).

I asked the same thing about my MX-6 when I had it (got tagged behind passenger side door), and low estimate on that was $7k.

Hopefully it's cheaper for you. Be sure to check many body shops and try to find which ones are good.

The trunk is still latched, yep -- I didn't want to risk trying to open it, cause I was afraid it might not shut again, but it's still latched. The trunk is actually only pushed over MAYBE a quarter of an inch, if that much. There's not even any damage to it.

The back bumper definitely needs to be replaced, though. A hole was ripped right through it by the guard rail. The lip can probably just be painted, though.

Damn that sucks. I would talk to some people on the forums that have totaled there speeds and see if you can find a titanium that can hook you up with the parts you need.

screw the lip man, if you have to replace the bumper , get a rear body kit bumper, alot of times it is cheaper toget that than a factory bumper..

glad to here ya ok though.. i spon out one time, but there was nothin for me to hit so i lucked out. It happens soo fast you really have no time to react. hope it all works out for you..

Well, if anyone reads this that had a Titanium, let me know! I'll dig through past threads, too, and see if I can find anyone.

Thanks for the support, guys. I think the best part of the whole incident was that when the cops were there, asking if I was alright and if I wanted an ambulance, all I could say was, "Who gives a s*** about me, do you see my CAR?!?"

lol, i would be the same way.. i could be in a coma and get up , holy s*** is my car ok!!!

the only real wreck i have been in is on 4 wheeler.. the tree won.. 800 dollars of damage on the 4wheeler, bent the frame , and messed up all the front suspension.. i flew off the bike and rolled threw a clearing..

Glad you're OK Rush. Are you sure the back tire is OK? It looks a little pushed in on 1 side in that first pic.

I'm about 95% sure that the wheel is fine .. I drove the MSP home from the accident, about a 15 minute drive, and there was no pulling or anything that didn't feel right. Of course, I'm no mechanic or anything .. so I guess we'll see.

I'm gonna head out to the body shops on Monday. As horrible as it sounds, I may need to use some kind of tape to pull my bumper back in line a bit .. It's hanging out pretty badly right now. Anyone have any recommendations on what to use? Some good ol' fashioned duct tape do it? .. Or can I use something a little less embarrassing?

Damn that sux dude . . . if your still paying for the msp and youhave full coverage they will probibly take care of it your premium may go up a little when you renew but its better tha payin a few g's to get it fixed

Yeah, I'm almost positive this is gonna be turned into insurance .. There's no way I'll be able to afford a good, clean job without it. And I refuse to go somewhere that will only do a half-ass job just to get a lower price. So, yeah.

im guessing 10k to fix that.. the frame on the car could be bent from the way you hit it and if you were doing 40 then more then likly bent the frame..

Because safety-wise, I think the MSP is one of the 'best' cars to have an accident in .. I mean, how many people on the forums have been in crazy wrecks with them and have come out with only a few scratches and bruises?
