AC light flickers / 4 way flashers not working

Howdy all.

My 03.5 MSP has an odd AC issue. When the button is pressed it will come on then flicker and with every flash on I can feel the engine drag as the AC compressor is activated and the air gets cooler, when the light on the button is off I can feel the power come back from the clutch disengaging and the air will start to warm up. This just started today (90F here!) and it only briefly flickered when I used it on the highway then stayed off. When I got into town I tried it again and it flickered for a bit then came on and stayed on. I just parked it about an hour ago and I'm letting it cool before I start to mess with it. My theories are:

1. low refrigerant causing problems with low pressure tripping the cut-out
2. when I degreased the engine bay a week ago I got water in the clutch wiring (1st time using the AC since the wash)

I will investigate in a while but figured I'd ask here to see if anyone has other suggestions.

Another issue is my 4way flashers are not working. Push the button and nothing happens. Turn signals work but hazards do not. The DS corner light (little bulb in the headlight, not the running/turn signal larger bulb) is burnt out and I haven't replaced it yet. I doubt this would have any effect on it but I want to give as much information as possible. I bought this car a week ago so that's all the experience I have with it so far.

Thanks in advance!

Huh, I tried searching for "protege ac flickering" but didn't get that result. Thanks! I'll give it a go tonight. When I went to the bank the AC would only work on low and high and only flickered once. Looks like this might help. Tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter. Welcome to summer!

*EDIT* Dunno why I didn't check the P5 forum. These cars are exactly the same save the turbo bits and LSD. I would have seen it stickied there... (rules)

In other news... my non-working 4 way flashers were simply disconnected. Plugged the switch back into the harness and they work again. Sometimes it's the simplest things.
