AC clutch squelling after new belt installed

I have a 07 Mazda 3 with the 2.3 that has 73k miles on it. I just replaced both belts and now 3 days after the install the A/C clutch is squelling periodically. Wasn't doing it before the change. Since the ac belt is a "Stretch Fit", do you think it may be a little new and tight causing a bind on the ac clutch? Has anyone else had this problem?

Did you install an aftermarket belt? I doubt that it needs breaking in. I've not changed mine but
will buy a genuine Mazda belt after reading your comment ("stretch fit"). All previous cars I
have owned had adjustments for the ac belt. Sorry I cannot provide an answer. Hopefully
someone else will respond.

I actually found out what is going on with this. There is a serial number break on the AC belts for the M3. The difference is the length. Although my serial # said one length, my car had the shorter belt (ie. too long of a belt WILL slip and squeel). Instead of putting on the shorter aftermarket belt in Gates, I bought one from Mazda and it was HALF the price of the Gates. I haven't put it on yet but am posotive this will fix my problem. Thanks Clifton!

Hi mikeys,

It's been a while since I've put one on (of the countless ones I've done) it seems like I remember these are directional belts. I know it sounds weird, but just double check anything printed on the belt for a directional indicator.
