LOL at all you experts.
Surging shouldn't happen, But if it does its probably your knock sensor pulling some timing due to heat and bad fuel. If anyone on this board can blow up a MS3 engine by running 87 octane let alone anything else FROM engine knock, YOU ARE ONE BAD MOFO...........
Knock is bad, but their are so many safety measures built in the computer to save the engine.
these engine are built to make sure no normal idiot can blow up the engine from poor fuel or extreme heat. thats why you have a knock sensor, boost control.........etc..........
MS3ICA....... you need to calm down and get your facts straight. I'm not denying that your car over boost, but do you have a gauge to measure it? if so, then take it to the dealer and show the service manager the problem and have them fix it. If you have extensive mods, then you need to re-evaluate your mods and get the car tuned for them.
as for the original poster, make sure you are buying decent gas, IF YOU WANT TO KNOW FOR SURE IF TIMING IS BEING PULLED, THE DO THIS............ Buy a can of torco race additive and add it to the tank. if there was ANY knock before and it was causing timing to be pulled , TORCO will eliminate it. I run it in my SVO to the tune of 27psi without any knock.
If the car runs better, then you have a knock problem. probably due to water downed gas. Change gas stations. If it has been extremely hot then this also has to be considered.
Oh last comment about boost in 6th gear. It does load the turbo more, but is it bad for it? **** NO!!!!!!!!! I pass in 6th all the time and enjoy the power from my MS3. It doesn't matter what gear your in, you will only build boost once there is enough load and rpm. once that load hits and boost comes in, the computer will compensate for the correct amount of fuel and timing, UNLESS knock is detected. Like i said no one here can blow up a stock MS3 even if you ran it on 87 octane its ENTIRE life, the computer will just pull timing and move on.
