If you're asking me, then here's why.
I own a Canon PowerShot A80 digicam which has a built-in Panoramic mode. Basically, I can take a picture using the LCD screen and then it will put an edge of the picture next to the current one as an overlap so I can correctly line up the shot. So I take picture one, then overlap a little on two, overlap a little on three, and keep going until I'm done. If I wanted to (and I really want to try this out for the next meet), I can go in a complete 360 degree circle and stitch it together as a massive panoramic.
Once the photos are taken and downloaded to the computer, Canon's PhotoStitch software takes over and automatically matches the pictures together and creates a seamless panoramic which I can then save and edit, resize, add text, etc.
It's really fun and although it's recommended you be on a tripod for exact matches, I did all my shots handheld and they came out quite nice. Here's another pano I took though it doesn't have the fisheye effect.
Hope that helps.

As for the problem w/Joe's emblem, I'm working on trying to fix that. It's a disadvantage to the stitching there's always one part that's off. In the Starved Rock pano I made for example, one of Ken's foglights became an oval. I'll see what I can do!
