4 point ladder bar

What is the issue with Kartboy hangers? I would think they would help keep the exhaust up and out of the way... man, glad I read this thread - making me reconsider my future GT Spec purchases :(

I don't know where I saw it, but I know I *did*..honest.....it's not on GT Spec's site or EDO's, but when I get chance, I'll find the source.

I want to say it was on a piece of paper that came with my tie bar and ladder bar...

Honestly, I don't think it's an issue (i.e have to reconsider anything). I have the Kartboy hangers and I intend to install both (hangers and the ladder bar).

I think the GT Spec stuff is good (worth the money? eh...not sure...), but I have to question the fit on this ladder bar.

And yah, I get a bit of a "clunk' with the front tie bar....not sure what's up with that...

it is posted on corksports site. they say there is a clearance issue with the hangers and the ladder bar.

Wrong washers, poor fit and clunks unacceptable for $$$ invested. Unfortunately, this is the story with more than a few aftermarket parts.

Yeah, I'm probably going to return mine; I just haven't had the time to get on the phone with EDO and GT Spec and hammer out some agreement. When I spoke to Ken at GT Spec, he told me that I pretty much was installing it incorrectly and that I should check the way I was putting it on.

I don't think the clunk is caused by the tie rod; I almost am beginning to think that it shouldn't be there to begin with.....

That is really lame.... why can't they just adjust for this? I guess it saves me some money then. Thanks for the post guys.

Does anyone else think that the GT-Spec s*** is just a gimmick? Like I bet they jsut looked under that car, and said "lets put a bar from here to here," etc without any actual thought or R&D... I'm sure it helps a bit, but...

/\ /\ I'm starting to feel that way too; I mean, I took that stock "ladder" bar off and the mofo seemed about as ridgid as can be to begin with.

The tie bar, yah, I can imagine it being somewhat beneficial.

I'm going to start slamming them with complaints about the ladder bar...

The "ladderbar" the car came with seemed very rigid to me as well though it was very heavy. i'd really like to know if the gtspec bar is as stif or stiffer.....i just dont know. hhmm

So ultimately we dropped the cash just for weight savings..........great.........

No way man! Now you've got cool orange parts under your car! That's pimp!

So I have the ladder bar, lower tie bar, and rear strut bar on my P5 for about 6 mos.

I had no problems installing it at all. I also just put on the Kartboy hanger and an OBX 4-1. Still no problems. I realize that it's not an aftr mkt cat back but there looks to be a good amount of clearance. I am not a spokes person for GTSPEC but I have not had a single issue with any of their products.
Maybe I just got a good batch?????? these things happen like with the AWR headers(some hit the radiator fan- others do not: different batches).

Anyway there stuff work for me and works well.

that's just MHO- not arguing anyones points.

OK, let me be the first to solve all your problems with the GT-SPEC 4 point bar. Well, this may have worked for my buddy and I but may not for others.

GRIND OFF THAT FLASH OF ON THE FRAME. That little nub that sticks down, get a grinder and grind it down, then paint over it with some black paint, and bingo, the bar fit. Before we ground down that nub, the bars wouldn't fit for s***. No way, no how, nothing, nada, zilch, zero.. you get the point. But after I thought let's just grind those little bastards off, we were in business... fit perfect, no complaints at all. We put all the parts on my buddies to include the v-brace, front brace, front 4 points bar, tailing arms, new 21.5mm rear sway, and damn, the car is stiff.

This may have worked for us, but may not for you. Just trying to help out!

NJP5 was saying how the nubs might be the issue; I haven't gotten under there since to check that out, but seeing that this may be the issue (validated twice), then that may be it.

Hopefully it'll be somewhat warmer tomorrow (say about 30) and I should be able to get under there.

Thanks,
D

oh man, 30 that sucks.... I'm in vegas and it's nice out today, so sunny. Anyway, get a grinder and grind them off... trust me.. you'll need no washers under it any longer and that noise your getting, MAY??, go away. I painted ours because after you paint it you cannot tell that you even ground them off.....

Good Luck.

im just sticking to my washers. im not grinding anything on my car......i had thought about doing that for like two seconds.......no offense or anything. the clunk doesnt seem as pronounced since adding the washers but its been damn cold and i dont beat on my car when its cold so its possible the clunk still exists.

like cable43 said, it may just be the "batch".

Okay I just installed the 4-point ladder bar and the front lower tie bar on my MSP.

NJP5Guy

The nubs you are talking about, I saw them but they didn't give me a problem when installing the 4 point ladder bar. Bascially they sat right up against the ladder bar itself.

My problem

I think the clunk that everyone talks about is coming from the black engine brace frame thing (outlined in red) hitting the front lower tie bar.

I have the stock motor mounts with 16,000 miles on them. If I upgraded to the AWR front motor mount, would that prevent the motor from moving and coming in contact with the lower tie bar?

Who has these bars and AWR motor mounts?

If we add AWR mounts does it fix the clunk problem?

If so, which mounts the front, rear, or both?

Saban. I doubt that that particular support is moving; that's the subframe brace and if that thing moved, we'd have a few more issues than just clunk.

Did you use the stock washers with the ladder bar?
