4-Channel amps

Yes, it's prolly the same thing you used for putty. soft and flexible on one side and rigid on the other for holding it.

Yea, I have one. I'm using the Dremel mostly right now because the enclosure is fairly small and awkwardly curved.

haha, yea I have a ton so far, I was just waiting for final product before posting them. I guess I can upload a few so far. I'll snap a few more today if I can since I put on that filler/resin mixture yesterday. I want to sand it down some so when I take some pics it looks nice.

We don't mind seeing in-progress photos...those are the most fun anyway. You can upload them directly to this site by going to "UserCP" (top of the page). Then select "Upload Files" from the left column. Upload your files, copy the links to each one to your clipboard, and paste them in a message by using the "Insert Image" button.

*L* progress photos is all I've got if I waited til I had something finished I'd never have anything to post...

K, here they are (most anyways as I left out a few detailed ones here and there) Too many to caption, so if you have questions just ask about the particular pic. This is also my first attempt at this so go easy on my work in progress.

The hard part will be getting it back into the compartment now that the sides may be thicker. So, I'm trying to figure out how I can prepare for 1) too thick to fit in certain areas and 2) unevenness-I want it to be as flush to the panel as possible.

Wow Red!!! That's looking great!!!! Can't wait to see the final photos of it in the car!

You should write up a mini-how to for other Mazda5 owners also and share your experience.

Is that looking alright? Cool, glad you think so. Yea, I will do a write up, there's someone in the 5 forum that was interested, I think you posted in that thread.

Once I get it a little smoother, I'll prime it up and do another test run with the sub installed. I want to make sure I get it sealed, stuffed, and sounding perfect before I get to far along with the appearance.

I've sanded some more and it's getting there.

One thing tho, I put in the sub and drove around to hear it. It sounds really good, I will definitely have to use a weather strip seal as that handled all vibration/noises. However, the Alpine was VERY hot after about 10-15 minutes of mid volume songs featuring ample bass lines. Is that normal and OK for it to run so hot after so little time spent running? Also, about an hour later when I removed the sub, it too was warm towards the bottom spider area. Is that fine an OK?

The heat is normal. Some amps get hotter than others but as long as they are ventilated you should be fine. If not, the warranty will cover any issues you might run into.

Your box is starting to look like a pro-install! Are you sure you haven't done this before?

The amp didn't run hot with the 4 ohm PP 10" tho. That's why I ask.

Thanks for the compliments. No, I have never touched FG or bondo or anything. But I'm an artist and I'm pretty handy with tools and such. I'm just getting nervous about the dry run installed because of the back seat. I hope the box doesn't hit the chair. If it does, I will fill that corner of the box with FG on the inside so I can then sand the hell out of the outside without sacrificing the structures integrity. I will also put some wax paper on the side panel when I install the enclosure so that I can fill the gaps between the box and the panel with bondo. (the bondo won't stick to wax paper I hope?)

K, major issue. Remember my rattle issue? Man, I used weather seal strip AND even did a second run with the seal AND calk!! STill had the issue. It's when ever a drum beat (not bass note) hits, there's a 'tack' sound to the 'thud' of the drum. I took the speaker out and if I tap the voice coil, one end 'thuds'. When I tap towards the bottom I get a 'tack' sound. I ran the speaker just sitting on the floor and it does the same sound, so it's not my box. Does this mean the speaker is defective? I have calk all over the damn thing, I'll call cardomain.com and see what they say.

I'm pretty bummed as the box is completed, painted and pretty damn sweet. I just can't get a good sound from the ID8 :(

That does sound like a defective sub. You could try mounting it inverted just so you can hear the noise a little clearer but I would call cardomain and tell them you have a defective subwoofer. They should replace it without question since you are still within the waranty period.

More pics please!

Here are the pics. The final pic with the speaker installed is before I was able to clean up, etc because I wanted to the speaker to sound good first. So, you can see the door strip which is no longer there and I haven't had a chance to paint the screw heads black, etc, etc.

I emailed cardomain.com and we'll see what they say. I'm just a little worried because the sub has calk on it now ;(
