225/40/18s --what drop can i do?

+53mm I'm thinking about getting spacers to make the wheels more flush. After I put the springs on I'll measure to see what size to get.

i can tell by your pics u have way more clearance than i do and ive had a few ppl say with my size tire and offset i cant drop and i have no one to "experiment" and put the springs on and if they rub take em off. The dealership is putting them on. : ( $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Erica, this is the Mazdaspeed drop on mine, same as the Prokit

Although these are the stock tires and wheels the height is the same as the 225/40-18's, and there is still a little gap there.

im sorry if im beating a dead horse (deadhorse however my offset is 42mm. and im getting all these pms and IM NOT GETTING consistent answers hahaha im more confused then i was to begin with. so!!!

: (

yea... #1, offset means nothing without knowing the width

#2, if you rub when dropped, you'll rub at stock height (just less often)

#3, spacers will only make your offset LOWER, thus not helping anything

You'll be fine with the prokit. Tsunami has the same tire and rim specs as you and I and he didn't have to roll his fenders plus he doesn't have any rubbing issues unless the back of the car is loaded down with a bunch of heavy stuff and that's only when he hits big bumps going to fast.

part of that problem is even though different tires have the same size they may not be exactly the same when it comes to dropping and rubbing

Falken 912 225/40/18's on 18x8 stretches the sidewall out a little and allows for a pretty aggressive drop with little chances of rubbing. with a 42 offset you almost need that sidewall to not be straight up from the wheel if you don't want to worry about rubbing. and you deffinitely don't want the tire popping further out than the wheel where the tread starts......i know it sounds confusing. stare at your setup for a while though and it might make sense

this is kind of an exagerated picture but see how the lip of the wheel sticks further out than the tire and the sidewall looks kinda stretched. well a setup like that allows for more forgiveness when it comes to rubbing

and yes i realize those fenders are roled but i'm simply using this example to make a point

i wouldn't pay dealership prices to install a spring kit... have your boyfriend/uncle/cousins do it for pizza and beer or a local trusted garage do it its a relatively easy task and you should get an alignment after wards. i would imagine the price savings over a dealership install and align vs. a good garage is prob 100-150$

ahahahahah i wouldnt trust my car with any of the listed above haahah im gonna try and see if someone can do it at one of the meets im going to so we will see!! thanks!

not really something that can be done in a few hours. if its one to two people its a half day or so project if they no what they're doing (unless they have lifts and air tools of course) first time it took me 1.25 days to do it by myself and i didn't have a clue i would think i could do it in 4-6 hours now or less with help.

someone from another forum is gonna do it for me as they have an amazing garage that has every tool possible! and im going with the tein hs. : ) ill post pics after i get em on

congrats on figuring this all out and pulling the trigger... you will love your lowering springs those a short throw shifter and a rear sway bar are still my favorite mods..
