2008 CX-7
I took our lovely CX7 in to the local Mazda dealer (where I purchased the car new from) for an oil change and tire rotation. While in the service bay they have this neat tool where you drive over two sensors that look like a couple of car scales and the find that my front end is way out of alignment and the rear needs to also be adjusted and for $90 they can do that. So I leave the car at the dealer and do some errands around town. Then get a call from the dealer which states that my front tires are wearing out on the inside due to the excessive toe out and they suggest to replace the two tires ($400), air filter ($23), the cabin "pollen" filter for ($70). I declined the suggestions. When I picked up my CX they showed me on the rear tires (since they rotated them the fronts are now on the back) and where the wear is at, and sure enough the inside of the tread was wore smooth.

I am debating on asking for some help with warranty on this issue and can not understand that if they claim that it was due to hitting a pot hole would both tires wear exactly the same? I feel that this was like this from the factory and I think that if I do ask for some compensation for the repair (that should have been checked before delivery of the vehicle). A tire place stated that from factory the tolerance for toe and camber is very loose (large) and then the dealer will blame tire wear or what ever, so they have a tighter tolerance for camber.

I know that times are tough and everyone needs to see more money come in but I do not feel that this issue was produced by my driving.

I guess I am looking to see if anyone else has this issue.

Thanks
MAX

The manual states that the cabin and air filter are NOT due to be changed for many more miles. If the dealer has rotated your tires on the recommended schedule (7,500 miles), then you should have been appraised of tire wear before this. I think at 20,000 miles getting free new tires will l be difficult but, I would press for a free alignment. I had a new 2005 Subaru that was showing excessive tire wear at 10,000 miles and I got a free alignment. In my case, I had recipes showing tires were rotated on schedule. Let us know how things work out. Ed

last rotation

The tires were rotated at 14,500 miles when it was last at the dealer ship. So I will need to look at the front tires (that were on the rear before the rotation). Not sure if I am even going to bother with trying to get something done. My time is more valuable to me. I will more then likely take it to my tire place and have it aligned and let er buck.

I am also surprised that I did not feel any performance issues while steering.

Thanks for the post.

Bottom line tell your Mazda dealership to shove it up their @$$, they should have given you a free allignment and replaced your tires for at least 50% of the cost because they did not inspect it properly. Especially if you are at 20K miles that means you are doing regular oil changes (i hope). When they do the oil change especially at the dealership they are supposed to do a inspection of all the oils, filters, ext. I dont no the whole story but from what I read they are trying to rip you off. Please remember the customer is always right and they didn't do you a favour when you but the car. YOU DID THEM A FAVOUR BY TAKING ONE OFF THE LOT.
I am constantly having problems with the service department and when the asshole behind the desk pisses you off ask to speak to his manager, and if he is a dick speak to his manager etc, until you get the service that is to be provided to you. Remember there is always someone higher up, and just cause some asshole behind a desk tells you the sky is green, it doesn't make it so. Also did you purchase the extended warranty?

We are still on the stock set of tires at 34k miles. Still plenty of tread, but they are NOISY! They may get replaced before our trip to Florida though regardless of tread depth. I may get a headache from these things after the drive down!(shocked)

Update

Dealer says no warranty. Not happy but just as I suspected. Hearing that stock tires (Goodyear SP what ever) are too much of a performance tire and tread is soft creating rapid tire wear. 20-35k miles. CX-9 has the same issue (per dealer). I will be looking on line her for some take offs. I would say that if anyone is looking to get a CX that they need to verify that the camber has been checked and alignment has been performed. If I go new I will get the Goodyear Fourtua tires (50-60k tire). Or do nothing and trade it off.(bang)

Many dealers are treating customers better than yours. At 20K you seem to be at the bottom of the typical wear for the OEM tires (20-30K). However; if you took your car to that dealer for service that required them to put it on a lift then any abnormal tire wear should have been noted. The bottom line is "They did not do the vehicle inspection as Mazda/Ford advertises" A good dealer as noted before would offer a 50% tire replacemnt and at least 50% off an alignment. nuff said. Find another dealer if you can or just eat the cost and go to your tire place.
