2017 CX-5 drl question

I really dislike how hard/impossible it is to code features on our CX-5.

I can code so much on my M4.

If you're ok with rear led tails on as well, you can disable your drl's and then leave your setting on parking lights, and it will be like you want. Headlights will still shut off and come on when they need to.
Don't think this will work as if you leave the light switch at parking lights position on GT, the front and rear LED accent strips will be still on for 30 minutes (at least ?) after you shut the engine off.

I just checked again. In 20 seconds they shut off after shutdown.

Went to the dealership today...
Told service manager the problem...

1-2 hours laters ... I was told to pick up the car ..
DRL is now OFF ...

I told him there could be more OCD people like me coming
in to fix the same problem(turn off DRL) to preserve the life of the LED headlights.

I like the idea of being able to turn ON or OFF my headlights

I like the idea of being able to turn ON or OFF my headlights too! I agree with you and I'll do the same if we get a 2018 CX-5 later, although I'll miss part of cool LED Signature DRLs a lot!

I hope more 2017 CX-5 owners who don't like this DRL configuration with LED headlights on all the time, call or email Mazda North American Operations expressing your opinion. I'd called and emailed them several times, but the rep's attitude seems like why do I care as I have a 2016 CX-5 and I already have the DRL configuration I preferred!

They need to "unpair" the LED headlights from the light strips.

Great! Thanks to confirm that.

BTW, have you ever had a chance to install your "Daylight Kit" from Japan?

I believe this headlights "paired" with DRL Signature strips feature is US special. Check German CX-5s in your area and see if they have the same ⋯

It think we are the first in our area. They took orders starting June 30th from what I understand. But I'll keep my eye out.

No, it has been too hot and I have to pull the front bumper to install the wiring correctly and I still don't know if it will even work. I am using the parking light work-around right now with drl's disabled.

This is what it looks like when driving. I would prefer not to have the tail light led's lit up or the orange parking light, but it works better than having the headlights on.

Thanks for the photos. I guess this may be the best alternative to have "4-way" DRLs at this time for 2017 CX-5's. ;)

Please spend time to call or email Mazda North American Operations to express your concerns on this matter as a 2017 CX-5 owner.

Yeah, the best part is you can actually have your lights off if you need to for some reason. No way to do that while moving with stock setup.

Thanks for the pics bigtex. First time I've seen that. Ok, I retract my earlier statement that it's not that big of a deal with the light on. Looks gorgeous without.

So glad our CX-5's get the proper DRL's and doesn't need to have headlamps on :D Would be nice if we also got rear DRL's like the CX-9 does here.

I would disable mine too as I'm not too big of a fan of the low beam on all the time. Though I don't really mind it but I do miss having my 2014 mazda 3 sGT with the designated LED DRL which does not use the low beams. The thing is if you disable the DRL and only drive with your parking lights on, the LED accent lighting isn't that bright during the day. They remind me of the Ford mustangs with the LED DRL which is not that bright. Other than that, I'm not really a fan of having DRL until they started doing it with LED. I disabled them on my previous cars prior to the mazda3 since they were halogens.

Another great decision by Mazda USA. Not!
