2016 Mazda CX-5 - What do you not like?

The BOSE is complete garbage. Sucks too bc girl says "it's the best system I've had regardless, so you're not touching it". Dang it, I have about $5k worth of stuff I wanted to add too, but I gotta at least sneak in the Polks for now and see if that at least helps. Ugh...

And no compass? It's got a pretty bad ass compass, actually. Pop out your Navi card. I've never seen a compass that nice.

I'm aware of the compass that's available without the navigation card installed, but wouldn't it be great to be able to use a compass and nav system at the same time?

I assumed you wanted compass without The Navi. When the Navi is running I don't need a compass as I can tell on the Navi which direction is which.
To each his own, of course. I always thought those mirror compasses were cool. Not must have though.

Less problematic then the compass app Mazda installs in your car? I doubt that.

Less problematic than repeatedly removing the nav card to get at the compass app whenever you want it instead of the nav. I would be concerned about the potential for damage and the possibility of losing the nav card. It also solves both the things he hates in one app since the compass is integrated with the speedometer app.

The BOSE is complete garbage.

I've grown to hate it much less over the past week. I suggest you use the fader to about halfway or one notch passed towards the rears, treble up one or two notches, and bass as is. Then play some bass heavy EDM as loud as you can handle. It will sound pretty decent. I found the system weak on the bass originally but it seemingly improved after a few days. It's definitely not a great soundsystem, it's horribly unbalanced, but it can sound pretty good with the right music, settings, and loudness. It is ridiculous though that this is Mazda and Bose giving us an upgraded "premium" sound. I am embarrassed for them.

I think it's fantastic. I have one notch towards the back, +3 Bass, +2 Treble. Love. Love. Love. Everything in my collection from Alice in Chains, Volbeat, 5 Finger Death Punch to Johnny Cash and BB King sound fantastic.
Of course there's a million variables here. What did you have before? Smokes my previous car. How are your ears? Mine have never been the same since sitting in seat C4 years ago for AC/DC. 3rd row, 15 feet from the biggest speaker I've ever seen. LOL.

On a Misty Moisty morning
when cloudy was the weather
noticed my left wiper
wouldnt clean any better

Wouldnt clean any better
with 10k on odometer
how do you do? how do you do? how do you do today?

Seriously. The right one works fine. left driver one just doesnt clean. 8 months - is that normal? I never replaced wipers in TX on all cars I have owned and driven and never noticed this problem.

Do you only get inserts?

Can you elaborate a bit on "any better"? Do you mean crud, water, or something else?

I've noticed that these wipers often leave a very thin sheen of "oily-moisture" on the windshield, which can be absolutely blinding on dark foggy mornings. I think it has to do with the rubber composition to make it last longer. The tradeoff is it leaves thin streaks/layers behind. I used to attribute it to pollution in the rain, but then I read somewhere about these new fangled wiper blades and how their longevity design has performance tradeoffs.

Maybe if I treated my windshield with something they'll clean better?

I could see the moisture on lowerhalf of my windshield. Then I noticed a right angle from where on it was much clearer - that was my right wiper edge when it was wiping (passenger side).
Maybe I could have bought a car sitting on dock / dealer for a looooong time but it only had 30 miles on the ODO.

I do clean my windshield often with Stoners. But did not do any treatment as such.
8 months for a wiper is not long life - quiet the opposite.

k... we're talking different things.

One thing I've grown to not like is the rear-view mirror. I'm only 6' but for some reason I cannot tilt the mirror up enough so that I can see clearly out of the back window. Seems the highest adjustment is just a bit too low so that in order to see squarely out of the rear I need to duck my head just a bit. I thought it was because the mirror was coming loose a bit (and it was) but tightening it only helped a bit. My seat is also at it's lowest setting. Moving it (seat) forward helps but then my knees are pushed up against the dash. Anyway, works well for my wife so I guess that's something.

Mazda REALLY skimped on the interior indicator lights!

A few weeks ago we took our first really long road trip starting out after dark. I wanted to open the sunroof and looked up for the switch. Not a single indicator light in the ceiling mounted control panel! Damn.

I've had a sunroof in most of my cars. Saab never put lights by the sunroof either. Ford didn't.

Both my Pontiac and my VW had indicator lights in the overhead control panel. Not a big deal but it's a nice touch.

All of these are nitpicky, considering I recently purchased a CX-5 [2016.5 Sport] after looking at CR-Vs, RAV4s, Foresters, and Escapes, but...

I wish the visibility to the rear of the cabin was as good as the Forester, though the tradeoff is making the vehicle less attractive.
I wish the backup camera adjusted its guidelines to include how you are turning, like some Fords.
The speedometer should have every 10 mph indicated, rather than every 20.
The rearview mirror flips the opposite way from what I'm used to -- my old car would have you pull the lever forward to block headlight glare, rather than push.
The manual height adjustment for the driver's seat is odd, but at least I only need to set it once.
Didn't care for the carpet -- it's hard to believe how much stuff it picks up -- so I bought floorliners front and back.

Like I said, pretty nitpicky. I'm on week three of my new ride, though, and I really like it!

You can have the mirror dip the other way. Dip it as if you are driving at night and then adjust it up or down to your daytime position. Once you have done that, it dips by pulling forward how you like it.

Thanks, I will try that!

Well, I've had the 2016.5 T a month now, and a list of what bothers me follows.
I tried to list in order of importance to me.

#1 - The horn button is much too far away from the steering wheel. You must exert
a fair amount of pressure and remove one hand from the wheel to activate. Not good if all you need to do is "toot" your presence. Something within reach of either thumb would have been nice.

#2 - I would much rather have had an "elapsed time of trip feature" in the spot where the outside temperature resides. Why do I need to know what the temperature outside is ? My 2005 Legacy wagon had an "elapsed time" feature - I miss it . . . a lot !

#3 - The map light and the cabin light are NOT independently switched.
The map light is in my right eye when I open the door - it comes on very suddenly and is pretty bright. Especially annoying in the evening. My initial solution was to turn the whole thing off. I am looking into lower wattage (3W) bulbs, or else I will remove the bulbs all together from the map light, or maybe just the one on the left side - should not have to go that route.

#4 - The cargo light should be mounted in the ceiling above the cargo area.
A 2 bulb-2 lens switched set-up would have been much more useful.

#5 - Open door dash warning light . . . which door ?

#6 - Courtesy light in lower front door panel when opening either door - missing !

#7 - Easily dented lower valance below trunk when loading or unloading cargo.
Corrected - see "How To".

#8 - Unstable console housing. Corrected - see "How To".
