From another source,

"Well now we know of the body changes and interior changes, and that they are testing the 16B or X which ever you want to call it. I am not hearing anything more as of yet.
I was told that they won't mind people looking at the car just no pictures at this time. Not a lot to see as in the "Spy" shots. Dash is covered and all the cladding on the outside. Not to mention they will NOT open the hood.
One should be arriving at it's next destination today."

300円 means 300 Yen, or about $2.65 or so, not 300 HP which is what I'm sure we'd all hope for. Thus I'm sure it's the price of the magazine.

Latest news.

"WELL,
I have just returned from talking to a Mazda Parts Manager that I trained and here is some news, the 3 RX-8's that are being tested in our outback are of the new model..
One has the RENESIS 13B "Covered Face lift", its appears US, Europe and Australia are testing them.
The other 2 have the 1.6 RENESIS one with DI and the other with NA!!!
They are all Japanese (factory) engineers with Mazda Australia techs accompanying them.
The MA "gossip" is that they have until the end of January 08 to rectify the heating issues (we are in our summer 40 degrees c plus temps), apparently the 16 (Bs'?) have a larger capacity water pump and the car has larger radiators/fans.
If this can be solved there is a strong possibility that a NA 1.6 litre RENESIS will be "offered" in the new face lift which is scheduled for line production in early April.
The 1.6 DI's are for the "New' RX in 2013.
If not the existing 13B with "tweaked electronics for more performance"
and the suspension upgrades we know about will be the likely outcome.
But the larger engine is not dead in the new 2009 RX-8."

Heat always seems to be an issue doesn't it...Interesting info indeed...Keep it coming! (thumb)

Does the RENESIS in the current RX-8 produce a lot of heat?

I can tell you the 20b feels like it has lava running through it at times...The 3 rotor produces a tremendous amount of heat especially after spirited driving...I have yet to use the heater because the heat from the engine bay naturally warms up the cabin. :D

Although the stock setup already includes two oil coolers in addition to the shroud fan and radiator (which all seems to be working just fine for now)...I might upgrade to a larger radiator and beefier oil coolers in the future...especially when more power will be involved.

95% positive it's only a facelift as most autos get after 4 years or so. So many complain about lack of power in the 8. Personally it does me just fine. I'm not out to win any races, just cruise. Besides, how many 1.3 liter engines do you see producing that much power?

Sure, it's a 1.3 making over 220HP, but how many other 1.3L engines only get 17 mpg?

I still think it's a fun car. My super tire spinning go fast days are behind me. I'd rather take one and spin the hell out of those rotors on the open highway.

Oh hell yea, any rotary produces much more heat than a reciprocating engine. That's one of the main reasons for poor MPG, thermally inefficient.

The reciprocating engine turns 180 degrees while the rotary turns 270 degrees, one and half times that of the reciprocating engine. In other words, in the reciprocating, the crankshaft makes 2 turns (720 degrees) during the 4 stroke process, while in the rotary, the eccentric shaft makes 3 turns (1080 degrees) while the rotor makes one turn. Hence the less torque fluctuation and smooth operation of the rotary. Basically it's almost as smooth as a V8.

February issue of The Winding Road has some photos of the RX-9. I am in love.
