2009 Wrx 265 Hp

Anyone watch the F1 race this weekend? All they did was run commercials for the new WRX. Some pro rally driver beating the hell out of it is pretty cool to watch though.

I think that the base msrp will be $27,995.

I like what they have done with the enhancements but I just really like the level of stealth that the ms3 has. I really dont like to get attention and any wrx will stand out in any color over most cars, especially to the younger crowd.

While the awd is nice, I would rather pay 4-6k less for a speed3 and just buy snow tires.

LOL,

Whats really funny is they have a section that compares horsepower and I assume comparable vehicles. They list an s2000, BMW 128i and a VW r32, however not one mention of an MS3. This means that subaru will be charging out the ass for this car, we can expect it to be in the low 28 to 30 range considering the trype of vehicles they are pinning it against. WOW subaru truly is taking it to their fans considering they dropped the ball with the first WRX release.

^This is all going to come down to price. If they keep it around what it is now, then this is going to be a great car. If they can deliver 265hp, AWD, and Subaru reliability and safety for 25k-ish, I will probably get an 09 WRX. With the AWD, the increase in power, the now stock summer high performance tires, and the significant suspension tweaks (very large increase in spring rates and 1mm increase in sway bars front and rear), the car is going to flatout perform. Looking at how close some of the numbers where around comparision tests between the MS3, Ralliart and the soft 2008 WRX, the 2009 should outpeform them both now, and outperform the Ralliart by a good margin, as the WRX weighs at least 300lbs less.

But again, this all comes down to price...If they ask $27,500 for a starting price, no thanks and I'll take an MS3 for $22,000...

I was looking at the same thing, and I still don't think it makes sense for them to do something like that. Looking at their pricing on the Imprezza from '08. The Imprezza goes for about $17,500, the WRX $24,500, and the STI for $34,900. If they are going to slot in a GT model which is just the old '08 WRX, it'll be priced probably a bit less than the WRX now, and the new WRX priced a bit more than the WRX now. If they price this WRX too close to the STI, too close to the GT and the GT won't sell, and if they price the GT too close to the base Imprezza, it won't sell.

I'm honestly anticipating maybe $22,000 for the GT model, $26,000 - $27,000 for the WRX, and the STI staying right around $34,000.

Since the release of pricing of the Mitsu Ralli-Art at $26490 I;d expect the WRX to stay right in that boat.

I was thinking the same thing, but why else would they compare the new WRX to sub 30 ish cars? You guys are probably right, but I cant help but think they are going to try and jack the price up a bit!

its probably a "Hey, this thing is faster than these expensive cars" Type ploy.... there's no way they will price this in the 30s as that will put it too close to STi pricing which would defete the purpose of the entire car...

Good Point!, I hope hey release the price soon. There are so many choices coing out in the sport compact world. I almost wonder if it would be prudent to wait for the dropping of the new speed3 in its redesigned form.

the wife and I are possibly considering a new WRX as the next car but it wont till fall of next year which means good prices to be had (evil)

Yeah it would be a great car if the price was right, I am just shocked that it took them this long to correct their initial problem. I think I will also wait and see how the wrx does and see what Mazda brings next to the table.

265 HP is a very convenient number, just barely one-upped our 263 HP.

I like the styling better than the last-gen with the big gaping mouth going :O

Saw a bunch of WRX's on the X-Games yesterday, they were doing a stadium mixed dirt/pavement course with a big-ass dirt jump in the middle. Couple guys wiped out pretty bad on it, the worst was the one Mitsu Evo IIRC. There seemed to be WRX's from each generation.

Eh.. i will take evo for 31-32k muhahaha.. next year. It really is not too much more. Im gonna feel bad for those who will be paying 26.5-28k for these car.

The torque number is much lower, and drive train loss being higher in AWD, it'll probably be dynoing lower than an MS3. It'll still have the AWD traction advantage off the line, and it'll get a better drive out of the corner (if the handling is fixed and its not understeering anymore), but I think it'll still be a hair slower in a straight line.

I think it'll beat the MS3 in (0-60) and most likey match 1/4 times with MPH being a bit slower (95-97). However, from a roll I think the MS3 will still be faster, passing at 45mph, etc.. Overall (Handling, braking, slalom, skid pad, track times), should be very close IMO. It's going to come down to perference, how much money you're willing to spend and rather or not you can live without AWD.

I've discovered how you can buy any new subaru for 2% under invoice + incentives no questions asked (evil)
