2008 WRX vs. 2007 MS3 by Inside Line Video

Do I think that the STI's and EVO's are over rated. NO. As someone else said they are the 2 kings of the hill, dooking it out.(put up your doooks, I have no f##king dooks-The Goat) But I do think that from a roll the MS3 will stay side by side with them two cars. The EVO X does not use the 4G63 anymore, its all aluminum, so we will see how durable that motor will be. But as well for the price you can not beat the price of the MS3 for what you get. Now compairing the MS3 to the WRX would be more of a fair fight. I will say that if I had the money I would buy an STI(wrc) in a heart beat. Evo(uhm) probubly not. Pre Evo X had a terrible interior, the X is nice though. And for a DD the STI has more creature comforts. One thing I will say though is there is no better sounding car w/(exhaust) than a WRX or STI. The way that boxer motor rumbles(friday)

Just take a listen, stupid song, but just watch an listen

Sorry dude, I still see it as extra weight being dragged down the strip. Launches and 60 ft marks are important, but if your acceleration suffers due to the weight, and power distribution, what's the point? I'm well aware the mustangs rwd. Are you aware that wheel hops as well?? I like WRX's myself, but the AWD is over rated.

I dont see your point, both the S3 and the WRX did the 1/4 in the same time, but the WRX is 40hp shy of the S3. This shows how important awd is, less power, heavier car and still done thw 1/4 in the same time. If the wrx had the same power it would have killed the S3 to the line.
I am not pro WRX i think its pig ugly and having owned both an Evo 7 and a my01 WRX, i can saftly say that i prefere the S3 and the S6 to the WRX but the Evo still rulls the roost for me!!!(cabpatch)

In short, torque steer will be 5x the problem it already is.

Whats the deal with people referring to the so call ms3 torque steer? Have you driven one? If so, then you'll know there is barely any torque steer in the ms3. Unless of course you're steering when you floor it, THAT will give you TQ steer.

Torque steer is caused by power being transfered to the wheel with most grip and thus causeing the car to be pulled in that direction. This will happen even in a straght line and all front wheel drive cars suffer from it. How badly depends on the car, tyres, chassis, shocks, road surface, differing driveshaft lengths and power. As a rule the greater the power the more significant the torque steer will be. That said the S3 has it pretty well balanced and it is not that noticable. If you want to feel it do a full lanch with no hands on the wheel and you'll see how much it pulls to one side (if a safe place).

Sorry, but I go to the track almost every week. At every hard launch, I barely feel any tq steer. But some people refer to the ms3 like it is some kind of tq steer monster. (headshake

Barely feel it still means that you feel it:p anyway i did say that the S3 was well balanced. Mazda have done an exeptional job.
The fact that there is so little is a tribute to the car and its engineers

Heck, I even feel a little bit of torque steer on my Speed 6 when I push hard, and it's AWD. It's because it's FWD based split torque system. No it's not bad, and is virtually non existent, but it's still there. My STI of course had more power going to rear, is a true AWD system, and of course is adjustable as well, so torque steer was non existent. You lock the rear to 65%, and it feels like a RWD car.

Makes me wish I had the Subaru AWD system, but it serves it's purpose for daily driving. I'd imagine I'd notice the torque steer in the Speed 3. That much power all to front wheels, it's unavoidable, but I suppose they did their best to minimize it to there it's not a major factor, unless you've added serious power to it. :)

You're right, I didn't say it was non existent. But I really feel tq steer is not a big problem in the ms3, and some people make it sound like it is terrible. Now when we start braking into the 300+ whp, is gona be more noticeable(or terrible).

If you read my comment again... you'll (hopefully) realize that I wasn't implying the TS on the STOCK MS3 is over-the-top. I merely said that, unlike the cars we're comparing it to (namely the WRX) increasing the power WILL make it an issue... while doing the same on the others will not.

I haven't driven AWD cars enough to know, Would they suffer from torque steer two? I imagine the front would be a lot like a FWD car, right? I'm a RWD/FWD driver, but I'm a little curious.

I believe it depends on the setup. An AWD system like the one in the MS6 might be more prone to it than one found in the WRX because it has a bias towards the front wheels. Even still, it obviously wouldn't be nearly as dramatic as a fwd car.

Got you! (2thumbs)

The MZR engine is a Mazda design, not Ford.

Ford dropped its Zetec engine in favor of the Mazda design, and sell it as Duratec 23.

great vid! i agree 100% the new wrx is butt ugly. but it is the base model of the boosted imprezas, and is as fast as the ms3. i do disagree with the tire thing :p ive had toyos, kumhos, falkens, bridgestones, dunlops, fuzions, and racing versions of all of those, and the kumho spt's are my favorite all around tire. i took toyos off of my stock rims and put the 17s with spt's on and am nothing but pleased. the kumhos out performed several rain rcomp race tires in the rain, has higher treadware than my toyos did, and out performs them in everyway. granted they are wider, but still, its an awesome tire. ive also had 712s and 711s. loved the 712s, but they were dead in like 20 minutes, 711's were ok for a budget tire.
Not exactly what i call slicks. I ran Kuhmos a couple of times on my truck. Very sticky, terrible on wear. Theres always a tradeoff somewhere. I went to the Toyo Proxies and havent looked back. Just as sticky as Kuhmos but with better wear.

We DO need some slick options for this car though. At least some Drag Radials to start off with.
