2008 Mazda5: SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES!!!!

The dealers in Washington state can't sell them. They are trying to move them hard, at invoice or below. We paid 18,000 for our 5-speed Touring but it is a 2006 so probably doesn't count. I dont know what the invoice really was, but I dont think they made much money, if any. I think that is too bad really. The sales manager was asking us why we chose the mazda5. He told us they were having difficulty selling in the Northwest.

I'd really prefer a 5-speed touring, but I've never seen one. The brochure says they're available, but search have only found 5-Speed sport models. Has anyone ever seen a 2007 Mazda5 with manual 5-Speed transmission? I know they're supposed to build them, but I've never come across one.

Another thing are there any 2007 Touring models with the DVD Navigation? Again, the brochure says its available, but when I talked with Mazda and contacted them through their website, they said the DVD Navigation is not an option in the 2007 Mazda5 Touring...

Strange...

Here's my perfect car (Mazda if you're reading, this is for you):

2008 Mazda5
Phantom Blue (looks like this is discontinued, argghh)
5-Speed Manual
Leather Interior (Black or Sand)
Xenon HID Headlights
DVD Navigation
Bluetooth
Rear-Seat DVD Entertainment

The Fernman Mazda price looks decent even if you add shipping to that listed price, best to call them to find out what other charges there are such as shipping/tax/tags. I paid $600 below invoice for a bare bones 5/AT back in February and paid cash, some individuals have done better than that.

The features you want can be added on aftermarket one by one and some have been discussed in the forums. Parrot makes Bluetooth adapters in case you can't find an aftermarket in-dash nav unit with one. Rear seat DVD - Mazda has one. HID - vendor is here on the forum selling those, but without the factory leveling feature.

Mazda’s compact MPV, the Mazda5, which has been on the market since 2005 will get a styling update for 2008. Caught during hot weather testing in the southwest U.S., the most noticeable change on this prototype is the new front end styling with a more V-shaped grille opening and a less boxy looking lower bumper. Chrome rings around the fog lights add a sporty touch. Headlights have also been redesigned, with the new clear plastic lens protruding slightly beyond the contours of the sheet metal. At the rear, the tail lights now use LED’s for the brake lights. Wheels have also been changed from the plain 5-spoke design to a more sporty 17-inch design.

Just ran across this at WorldCarFans too, not sure what to think about the redesign. It is a little weird though, because if you look closely at the "new" headlights and bumper at 3/4 angle , they almost look like applique's. Maybe it is just not painted to match ? Anyone else with any info?

I'm glad I bought the 07! Those wheels don't do it for me. The nose isn't bad, but the new side skirts are UGLY. All the changes they made that I like are INSIDE. Oh wells.......

hmm...i have neutral feelings. i like the headlights, fogs, and the new shape of the bumper. Dont really care for the rims, but that dont matter because i dont like mine all that much either.
:p

The front bumper looks like Mazda6/3 facelift-ish in 2006-2007. I always thought those grayish/chrome rings around the fog lights were not really necessary (since done to the 3 and 6). I would like to see the final one with no camouflage though.

Wheels: Those wheels are OK, but I my thoughts were right then (when I replied earlier), I like the 2006-2007 ones better (same as with the "new" 17in wheel styles for 2006-2007 for the 3 and the 6)

Taillights: no changes yet on the test model or is this a Sport one?

Well, not as much exterior changes as I initially thought, but not as "bad" either :D.

Now Worldcarfans, show us the interior! (drive)

Less drastic change than I envisioned. I'm not really feeling the wheels... shown below is a 2007 3... same concept with the spoke splitting near the tire, but the 3's are executed MUCH nicer. Not bad though, for potential buyers on the fence, I'd still wait for the 2008 for the added features.

Fog light onion rings anyone? Now I recalled where I saw those once... (boom06)
