2000 LX 1.6L Owners, w/ Turbo

I'm going turbo. I need to here from other people with the same car about the turbo. Pros and Cons. I guess I just want to make sure that it will work with my car. I have had some problems with parts for my car and them not working. I just don't want to go wrong with this one. Especially since it's going to be such a big investment. Thanks!

That's my ride

I can tell you that it works but I can also tell you that it took more than half a year of research and buying stuff just to get everything together.

no, I did not, the reason being I could not afford one. The hiboost kit for the 1.6 though very good, cost more than 4 grand.

Here's my set up

The 1.6 ZM is a good motor for FI setup. I've been beating the s*** out of mine for several years and the stock block is still going. I added the first FI setup at about 75K and the car probably had about 30K of daily driven at 8psi before it became a full time race car. Now it's driven under 12-24 psi of boost at the rev limit pretty much the whole time (anti lag). My suggestions don't go over 8 psi do the fuel management right and you'll add about 40% of reliable kick ass daily drivable horse power.

Here pics of my latest set up Enjoy :)

protege garage has the hiboost kit for sale, its 4k

You know the funny thing...HiBoost charges over 4 grand for a car that is the least expensive in the Protege line-up.

Even the Ford Focus Kit is cheaper than the 1.6L Protege kit...

I just don't understand why the cheapest Protege has the most expensive kit?

because its not a popular engine, he doesnt make many of the kits, the 2.0l kit sells better, more he sells more he can take off the price..

ok men but 4 grands it tooo much man in my opinion, maybe he should do a budget kit for the 1.6L that would be nice...

not enough demand for it.. over seas there is , he sells the kit really well there, but in the states, people tend to like the bigger motors better, hence 2.0l

Well, if he lowered the price, he'd create more demand...it's pure economics. And trust me, there is a demand....I'd be one of them...but the exchange rate from Canadian $$ to US $$ is not worth it.

I wish Juan would post and state the real reason why it's way more expensive than the other kits available.

Okay, PM'd him...let's see if he replies.

well, I didn't spend 4 grand, just buy the manifold from him, get a used TD04L (from a WRX), emanage, small intercooler, pipings, hoses, BOV/Bypass valve, bigger injectors (used if you can) and other miscellaneous stuff, it's about 2 and half grand (plus fabrication, installation and tuning) total.

The trick is to do your own research and bargain hunting.
