18's on a 1.6 inch drop?

that would look gay, the rear end of these cars already stick in the air, don't really want to add to that IMO. A nice 17 or 18" rim with level suspension is the best........... oh yeah and being super slammed!
 
Sorry to thread jack but I'm no wheel guy myself and I'm having a problem understanding what will fit the car. Plus being lowered is giving me doubts. I've found a wheel/tire package that I was told will fit my car but maybe you guys with 18s will be able to help. It's the offset that's confusing me.

The package consists of the following:

18x7.5 wheel with a 38mm offset
215/35 tire.

Is this setup gonna work? Any fender rolling needed? What is the offset I'm gonna need?

Edit: Well I found the wheel with a 45mm offset which I think will work better. Still unsure though.

It's all in the offset. With a correct offset you could be double your 1.6 and still be fine.
 
How do you know what the correct offset is? Would the offset need to be changed depending on how low the car is?

you need a high offset on these cars, or you will rub the rear fender lip. I had low offset 17's on my car (came with it when I bought it), and the factory size tire rubbed.... To be safe, 48 offset is as low as I would go, if you wanna risk a 45, be my guest. factory is 55, so keep in mind you just gave up 1cm of fender clearance if you switch to a 45 offset on the EXACT same tire and wheel combo (=10mm spacer added).
 
If you want to be low and not have any issues go as close in offset to stock as you can get. I had a set of wheels that rubbed bad. I think they were something like 42 but I'm way lower than most.
 
Mine are 18x7.5 with a +48 offset. I don't rub and while I'm not slammed ride height wise I am pretty low. You will need a 215/35 tire.
 
Well I appreciate the help. I think I found some other wheels in 18x7.5 with a 52mm offset (5Zigen ProRacer ZR520). That is pretty close to stock so I don't see any problems with those and 215/35 tires. Anyway, sorry for the thread jack and good luck to the OP.
 
Couple more questions, same size (18x7.5) between a 52mm or a 47mm which would work best? I'm thinking with the 7.5 wheel now that a 47 would be better. (I hate not knowing anything about wheels!) Plus, does anyone know what the hub bore diameter is on the MSP? I'm thinking I may need to get hubcentric rings? Thanks again. (blah)
 
personally I think hub centric rings are useless. I've had rims that "NEEDED" them then when i didn't put them on there was no difference at all. The lug nuts space the wheel thats what they are designed to do.

The 47 will push the wheels out towards the fender more. The 52 you will be closer to the strut. I would go with the 47 but thats just my opinion. I have hub centric rings on mine. When you order the wheels they should know if you need hubcentric rings to work with that rim or not on your car.
 
Well I appretiate the help again. I did end up going with the 47. I found an offset calculator that helped me understand a little more. Talked to them about the hubcentric rings also, they should be coming with the wheels. Now the waiting begins! By the way Haze20, how's the ride with the 35 series tires? I'm assuming it's gonna be pretty rough with the Ksports I have.
 
I have the Tein SS coils and its rough but I like it. I hate luxury cars. I wish mine was stiffer than it is now. You will just have to pay more attention to the road when it comes to pot holes and things. Also get a good air pressure guage to keep in the car.
 
Already have the good pressure gauge! lol. I hear you on the potholes, Detroit has plenty of them to go around. I've already scraped my exhaust cutout from hitting what seemed to be a speed bump in the middle of the road. I feel you on having a stiffer suspension. Mine's not a DD but I'd sacrifice for the better handling anyday. You don't have any rubbing issues while turning do you?
 
Nope. I have never rubbed. Not even with the back loaded with people or with just alot of stuff.
