18" wheels

I posted a thread in another section but probably should have posted it here.
What I'm wondering is, can I just throw some 18's on my stock P5? Someone said I need to check the offset. But I'm not sure what offset is. How will it look without lowering springs(have to wait till I get more $$)?

Also, does anyone know if the P5, and the VW Passat have the same bolt pattern?

I have 18's on my P5. I am not sure what the offset is on the stock rims, but it is 42mm on the 18's.

I had a little trouble with the rear fenders rubbing and had to shave them. This was worse when I put an Eibach Pro-kit on it, and I put a Mazdaspeed stabilizer bar on the rear to prevent this from happening while I was cornering.

Here are 2 pics, one before lowered and one after. Hope you can tell and this helps!!

18 Rubbing

I have the same problem you did with my MP5 with 18's and rubbing. The same Eibach Pro kit. So...did the Mazda Speed Stabilizer Bar help? and is shaving the fenders the same as rolling them?

You have to modify the rear, rolling and shaving...
Shaving...removing the lip with a powertool
Rolling...Useing a device to bend the lip or useing a wooden bat to tap it up. (Be Gentle)

You may only have to do the rear.... :)

read the fitment guide (sticky) a +48 offset on 7.5" tire should not rub. +42 is NOT recommended. I have +47 and I'm coming very close but not rubbing yet (I think.. might be a little scuffage on RR) with no fender mods

No Rubbing, but are you dropped?? That was the original question with regards to rolling or shaving the inside rear fender.

My car is pretty low on 18's. eepr5 is right. You'll need a +48 offset to lower your P5 with 18s on it unless you don't mind rolling the fender.

yes, I'm dropped on tien s-techs.

Sweet, My offset is probably much higher than yours. I had to modify the fenders even before the drop If I had 4 Peps in the car.

Mad:

get 215/35/18 for your P5. Make sure your rim is 45 offset or greater...
In my case: 18x7.5, 45 offset, Eibach pro-kit --> I have NO rubbing at all... I was very happy !

Good luck.

Shaving the fenders is similar to rolling them... Shaving them is cutting excess off and rolling it pushing excess up and out of the way... I prefer shaving. Personal preference I guess.

The Mazdaspeed stabilizer bar eliminated the problem altogether. I had it rub once since and I had a friend (200+ lbs) in the back and I SCREAMED a corner ;-). I would highly recommend putting a larger stabilizer bar on the rear of a P5! It made turn in crisper and eliminated a ton of body roll. If you do that mod, put the Mazdaspeed end links on as well. (They are 8 inches and ours are 6 inches stock) They work better, especially if you are dropped!

Hope this helps! (spin)

Where to get a fender roller?

Anyone know where I can go to get the adapter that will roll the fenders? I used an aluminum bat after I dropped it w/ Pro Kit's and 18" rims. That didnt' fully cure my problem so I need to find the little tool that I know is out there somewhere!! Anyone?
