153 MPH in MS3

Yes, the germans can do it day or night if they'd like, but I just got back from Germany three weeks ago, and they're MUCH better drivers than the majority of folks in the US. Remember, its not just your ability, its everyone else on the road too. Due to the behaviors they've got over there, its a hell of a lot safer for them.

About how long did it take for you to reach that speed?

I just watched my video again. From 40 Mph to 140 Mph it took 24 seconds. Than I had to brake and it it took another 20 seconds from 130 Mph to 153 Mph. I was upshifting at about 6000-6300 rpms.

well cant be much more careful if ya tried. How did the car feel when you had to slam on the brakes at 140.

It was very stable and predictable. The only difference from lower speed is the wind/engine noise (I don't usually drive at 6000 rpms) and the loud bang from the bumps. I hit a small bump on the highway at over 140 and it was really loud.

Do you feel better now that you critized him.

And in Germany you can get a ticket for being a morron and not observing the left lane is for passing only... whole different discipline and expectations on the autobahn vs your local highway

As for desolate roads at 3 AM being safe: yea they are until that tire thread the last big rig left on the road for ya gets in your way, or the coyote, or the cow, or the dip in the road, or the drunken sailor with his lights off, or that piece of metal that blows your tire out......

and btw Im not preaching doing the speed limit only calling BS to anyone that wants to justify a 155 MPH run on a public road as "safe" .... you want to post your 155 MPH run go ahead but please stop fooling yourself into thinking it is "safe" or it can be done "safely" - hell even at the track it isnt "safe" just less dangerous..

Good point.

The only thing kind of "safe" is that you reduce the chances of being caught by the police radar.

Driving the speed limit has its risks as well... if you hit head on @ 55mph you'll die just the same. s***, I bet you'd die if you hit a wall at 60mph. @ 155 you'd just die faster.

Personally I drive better at speeds above the speed limit... I put down my phone, wrap up my fast food, leave the radio alone. Granted I do this because know I need to pay more attention to the road, because I am going faster, but I AM paying more attention which is the point.

I don't condone driving that fast ever, however as long as CosmoMS3 understands that driving @ 153mph has its inherant risks and takes percautions to reduce that risk, like choosing the right road at the right time and such, then who am I to throw out the random "death wish" comment.

Technically the only safe driving is "BurnOut 3".

ah I remember when I hit the speed limit in my protege. middle of nowhere on 80 in Nevada on the way to SLC, middle of the night, and an Eclipse wanted to race. Ha smoked him. only went 127 as read on speedo.

i had an 03.. which had a different tuning. the 2zzge engine the xrs uses is the same engine in the lotus elise and celica gt-s.. i had an intake on it at the time and was getting 180 horse at the wheel. regardless of power.. i did 150 for the entire stretch and im still pretty confident it could have gone faster.

I videotaped on a Sony MiniDV camcorder. I transferred it to the computer using the USB connection but the quality is horrible and 1 minute of video takes 500 MB of hard drive space. I will figure out a way to transfer using FireWire cable and to compress the video. I attached a screen capture from the usb video at 153 Mph. Isn't it weird that I could not go 155Mph even with the CAI installed?

Drivers in Germany have to go through a LOT more testing an instruction to earn their license.... Nice try justifying an idiot's actions....

Sorry but this one is real easy for me, Public Road = Dumb. All you nay sayers can reply as you see fit, but if you want to go that fast, take it to the track. I own a ZO6 Vette as well and my MS3 has nothing on that car, but if I want to run it, I take it to the track.

Buddy (Lt Dan),
being born and raised in Europe, I had driven about 200.000 miles in Europe before moving to US, mostly on 2 lane roads and highways. There, if you want to pass somebody you have to make sure nobody comes on the other lane to avoid a head-on collision. I got my EU drivers license with the maximum points available (both for the driving test and written test). Same thing for the US one. Why do you have to assume that everybody wanting to drive fast in US is an idiot?
Trust me, if there was ONE possibility to drive fast in US, I would have gone for it. Give me a 100 mile section of highway in the middle of Nevada with no speed limit between 2 am and 4 am and a $200 fee to get on it and I will be there. But there is NONE.
So what other choices do you have? Renting time at a track and driving in circles?
For some reason, to me this is the attitude of somebody driving 55 on the speed lane and showing the finger to anybody to dares to pass them.

Or the meteor that hits the windshield, or the bug that gets in your eye, or the bum who was hitch-hiking, or the lightning that strike the car, or when the nitrous blows the welds on the intake mainifold.......blah, blah....... Yes I know Everything can go wrong, everything causes cancer. and everyone is out to get you.

Yes it is not as safe as driving on a closed course but as long as said person does what is in his power to be safe, who cares.(oh wait the poor mother of the person he rear-ended and killed cares). if you go through life thinkin like this, then there really isnt much time to enjoy life, your new sportscar, or anything for that matter.

He did everthing in his power for that situation to be "Safe". So just leave it at that. Im sorry, Im not trying to be a dick. I just get tire of the "everything will go wrong" attitude of America.
