100K MP5 Club

ha ha, I am impressed too and yeah, didn't make it to the pron.... It'll be a while before that much is consumed again, nights (and next day) like that make me loath the stuff.

To stay on topic my yellow P5 needs another thorough polish and wax job, cursed single stage paint. No rust yet so I think its not one of the ones prone to it. New KYB's are stiffer than the stock ones too, if I hadn't curbed it I'd still be on all four and going strong.

Tonight is my last night with her. Drive her to the dealership tomorrow morning to pick up the new Mazda 3.
It almost hurts to think about handing over the keys. I truly love my P5.
(nervous)

sooo... i guess im in this club now.

I have 105k on a 2003 Protege5. My issue is that it has gone thru 3 thermostats and overheats like a Towncar. Performance and fuel economy are steady 28-32 mpg, but periodically it gets hot and boils out the reservoir bottle. Anyone else have this happen?

radiator cap or possibly air left in the system. Did it not start overheating till after the system was drained for the first thermostat? Also could be the on the cusp of a blown head gasket.

147,000 kms!
gonna be traveling from ontario to quebec city in a week, so there and back.. add another 2,000kms!

still strong!

That's right where my 02 P5 is... well 147,000 anyways. My commute is an hour, but the last couple years I've been carpooling so I only have to drive every 3rd week. Anything to keep her alive ya know?

Just make sure you have a spare FS-DE in the garage, and you'll be fine.

Nearly 220K miles.. Changed the oil today and replaced the original post-cat O2 sensor. Noticed a torn upper passenger motor mount, and a tiny bit of a noise from the throwout bearing. Guess I'll have a few projects for her this fall.

So, to recap the history (a lesson in durability)

  • Original Owner
  • Replaced original timing belt and water pump at 160K miles
  • Replaced all 4 brake pads twice since new
  • Replaced original pre-cat O2 about 3 years ago
  • Replaced original after-cat O2 today
  • Replaced battery once about 4 years ago.
  • Still has original clutch, struts, brake discs, etc.

It's been one hell of a car. Due to a hail storm a few years back in DFW, the car now resembles a golf ball, but she's still fun to drive (when the wife steals my Lexus LS430). The wife had the nerve to suggest any repairs on it might dictate a new car instead. I couldn't think of any repairs that would make me want to buy a new car. (yes)

i've got 157k miles on my 03 p5. the check engine light just came on saying bank 1 is running lean. I was looking online at getting a rebuilt fuel injector and noticed that there are 2 different colors of injectors (purple and green). does the color mean the injectors are different? Does it matter if i replace a green one with a purple one? can anyone help me out with this
