1000 miles

Just got my car and new to the site. My dealer and friends recommended that I can't have "fun" yet until I got past 1000 miles and I have been stayin true to it. Any recommendations on what I should do or how I should drive until I reach that 1000?

Welcome Mango Man!! I just wouldn't take the revs much higher than 5,500 on acceleration. I really wouldn't baby it too much; but I wouldn't be going towards the redline either. Different drivers do things differently with their Turbo car. Just don't go nuts. You can still have fun.

It's a great car! I just turned over 2,350 miles today.

cool! thanks for the tips! I'm just itchin to take off from a light, esp. when other imports are next to me. all I do right now is smile and smirk. ack! the agony! :D

Agree w/ AGR... just add one thing, try not to drive @ one sustained rpm too long. -u want the ware pattern to vary; but not a big deal for most ppl. Other then that, enjoy your sweet (_l_) ride!!

Just be careful, my friend. We have already had one MAZDASPEED casualty here on the forum. Thankfully, nobody was hurt; but the "Speed was a mess.

any one had fun yet and surprised the crapola out of someone? I've had people ask me about the car and had some heads turns...and that's about it. Well for now...hee hee

Exactly Miko! Good point to vary the engine speed. I left that 'excellent' point out.

what happened to the casualty???

It's posted here. The owner let his buddy drive, and he lost control going around a corner. It's repairable, I think. There are pics posted. But, I found it hard to look at them.

Oh yeah! It's great. Mine was the first Black Mica in the Memphis area, and I have people checking it out all the time, at lights, etc...

I do most of my playing out in the country on the backroads. Playing in the traffic, I don't consider too smart. I might play some from a stoplight, but only for a short distance. Traffic tickets suck! I haven't had one in over 10 years, and I don't really want anymore.

Also; at 2,000 miles, I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic oil (5W30).

i see. There's a guy who wants to drive mine after I get past 1000. Hmm... maybe not and I think i'll pass on looking at the pictures. PS: did u get the teflon to coat the interior and exterior?

Be careful what you race :)

I had an Audi S4 absolutely kill me on the freeway, it was the wagon sort. He got mad at me for guessing lanes better and staying ahead but he eventually was right behind me as we exited from one freeway to the another. There was no other traffic so I took the sharp ramp curve at 70 or so (faster than the S4), as I merged I floored it in third, he was right behind me and then jumped over two lanes and like a poof a smoke he was gone. I just waved. I was flattered that he felt it necessary to prove his $40k German twin turbo against my $20k Japanese economy car!

Thanks for the advice guys and the stories. I don't plan on getting any tix. Like AGR, it's been 10 yrs since my last tix...well except for the warning last year.:D I do plan to be careful..but it's tempting when someting like a honda pulls up next to me.

Yikes 5W30 on a Turbo car....you might want to switch to 10W30 to be on the safe side.

Chris: I guess that does pose an interesting question.... I went by the book, and then I spoke with my dealer. They said for our climate 5w30 would be ok, but I am going to ask some other turbo people in the know as well, for next time around.
