10,000 Scheduled Maintenence letter is this true?

I received a letter today from the mazda dealership that services my car. The letter states 10,000 Mile Vehicle Service. This car requires a scheduled maintenance service already?

Second part of the letter states this * up to 12 months or 12,000 mile warranty on genuine Mazda replacement parts.

I thought the car is fully covered for up to 36,000 miles from what I was told at the dealership where I made the purchase.

Is this scheduled maintenence bogus scam so they make a buck?

I think the severe service schedule requires an oil and filter change at 5,000, 10,000, 15,000 ...... yes the 3/36 is the full car warranty. So if you get a part replaced at 35,000 miles it is warrantied to 47,000 miles. OK? or I don't understand your question. Just a standard form letter with you name on it.

I don't see where you became confused self explanitory, but here is a summary of the question does the vehicle need this service maintenance.

Where did you manage to pick up "severe" I do not know. In terms of oil changes I am well aware of when that occurs but I do not wait till 5k to change it anyway so that does not apply.

No, it is not required to keep your warranty. These are my second favorite, next to the "We want to buy your (insert year and model here) back, because there is high demand!!!" letter.

That 36,000 miles is your bumper-to-bumper warranty. If something breaks or fails in that warranty period, then Mazda pays for replacement and/or service, at no cost to you.

Now, that 36,000 mile warranty doesn't include routine service - you're responsible for that. It's your choice, whether or not you perform routine service, on the schedule Mazda recommends, but there's a caveat...if you don't perform routine service and a part fails, because it wasn't serviced properly and on schedule, then Mazda might state it's not covered under warranty. Those recommended service intervals are pretty standard for most makes/models. Of course, there'll be slight differences between the different auto brands.

As for the 12 month/12,000 mile provision, that's for any genuine Mazda replacement parts that Mazda installs, either as part of warranty service or for service you pay for.

Those notices are just reminders and are keyed to the recommended service intervals. The letters I receive, also come with a couple coupons, as enticements. Of course, Mazda has a motive to drop those in your mail box - they want your business.

I get my CX-7 serviced at Mazda, so I just drop those letters in my drawer and use the coupons when needed.

i got a similar letter once, called the dealer and asked if any of this work was necessary and he told me "if your car is running fine throw the letter in the trash"!

The owners manual is your friend and is good to read. The manual will answer most questions like the one posted.

Well in the manual theres option 1 and option 2.

They should simplify the service table

I do not see any maintenance intervals except for tire rotations, oil changes,
and when you hit i think its 65k change something with engine coolant system or what not. I glimpsed at it.

What I gathered from your responses are just pretty much get the oil change and tires rotated. Which at that cost is $30 for oil change & $20 for rotating tires. I wonder what is so special about this 10k service that they want to charge $130 then.

The dealer makes a lot of money on service. The want you to come in there often so they can make some money.

Dealers make more money on service than they do selling cars.

usually nothing special at all, just a list of "recommendations" of checks throught the vehicle. Most probably not necessary but that is what the high cost reflects. Service outside of the required oil changes and necessary maintenance is what dealers survive on - $$$.

I started getting letters about a month after I took deliver saying Mazda recommends service at 3750 miles. Exactly half of what Mazda actually recommends. I just chucked it in the trash.

I've had it 4 months and it's still not ready for it's first oil change. Will be about 2 more months or so. 5000 miles on it now, changing the oil at 7500 just like the manual recommends.
