Masda knows diffs are an issue . Mine 2021 was grenaded on test drive for another issue by the dealership at 66000. Dry as a bone claimed it was the tow company . Regardless It was Mazda's leaking diff seals that caused i in the first place Mazda is actively hiding this though if you see their in house service bulletins they refer to it. Mine was supposedly checked at 30,000. Ive had Mazdas fir years but this us the first to go beyond 60000 .Mazda wont cover it but us covering this issue up. Diffs simply shouldn't fail at this mileage. Do sone research and you'll see this isnt uncommon and if you own a cx5 check the diff out NOW before you runout of warranty per the abive. Im just amazed there hasn't been a recall however admitting theres a sleeping fault contingent on mileage kinda HURTS THE BRAND.
Hope the other suckers lilke myself and the above owner continue get the word out and burst the famzone bubble just as I was when Faced with a 6500$ repair ON ME.
FYIiii
Thanks Sid
Sorry to read your had this expensive repair.
This thread got me to put our CX5 diffs on the same maintenance as my 2500 truck. Check fluid level on 15k mi intervals and change it every 30k mi.
Ram has 30k mi differential service in their owners manual. Mazda??
My truck diff was still working at 200k mi, I changed out the entire unit because I could not get a seal to stop leaking. I bought a salvage yard entire unit for $500. We put in in 3 hours. Now, 290k mi on the truck, or 90 k on the used unit. I put a rear seal in it 70k miles later, it's not leaking a drop. It tows a 10,000 pound car hauler. Or sever duty.
Thanks to this thread, I checked our cx5 differentials and they were low on fluid from Mazda. This is my first all wheel drive with two differentials. The diffs are tiny compared to my truck and Dana 60 in my race car. Still they need the fluid level checked and changed, maybe more often than the brute force Domestics..
What I've learned, if I'm going to keep the car, I'm going to change ALL of the fluids on or before 30kmi. Mazda or what ever we drive.
Those days are gone where I never checked the levels or changed the fluids...fluids are cheap, parts and labor, NOT.
Brake fluid change is next, Its 26 months old. Past due..
