Paint my stock rims?

I think I'm going to paint the rims on the Millenia before I brave it on my MS6 wheels. The finish is cracking on the other wheels, so they need it as bad, if not more than my wheels do.

Hey here are the pics!

Sorry for the long wait. Haha.

They are dirty in these pictures.

I spent like 4 hours washing and waxing my car. And then the day after I do, it rains. These pics are post rain lol.

There ya go!

Looks good - quick question though - is that the flat black but with clear coat over it?

Here is the Gunmetal wheel paint...

I took an extra set of 17" stockers from one of my 6's and followed the steps (applying a major amount of patience). Here is the result:

the process...

Well to be completely honest, the process started out with ALOT of help from the wife.
She got in there with me on the whole process so I can't thank her enough.
First, we used some "aircraft stripper" to really remove the stock coat. After that we used 3200 grit sandpaper and did the wheels on the inside and out. After that, we used an "Adhesive primer".
Some wet sanding after that then another coat of adhesive primer.
We let all the rims dry for a solid 24 hours and then wet sanded again and then began to apply the Gunmetal coats waiting an hour in between coats.
We applied a total of 4 coats the first day and then wet sanded all the rims the next day followed by 2 more coats.
The 3rd day we did a VERY LIGHT wet sand on them and then began to apply the clear coat.
We did a total of 4 coats in the next 8 hours and the let them dry overnight.
The end result is quite visible although I must admit the process was VERY draining and there are some minuscule imperfection but nontheless it turned out great and our next project is going to be picking up some Mazdaspeed rims and trying it on them.
The guys @ Advance auto parts were awesome in helping out and duplicolor paint was definitely the way to go.
All I can say to everyone is if you decide to go this route remember one key thing:
Pateince

Aircraft stripper is the big part of this. If you really want to take the finish off and prep them correctly, this is the stuff you gotta use. You'll thank yourself later, its super strong and does the job.

hey so does anyone know whos speed6 this is. Also idk if you guys know if his rims are painted with duplicolor paint or powercoated? Might be a dumb question but I might as well ask. o and the mazda emblem on the front is that painted with niteshade or regular paint?

Thanks

Looks like just standard spray paint.

I'm still working on my first wheel, so I'll post pics soon of the results.

so the emblems regular paint right? and his rims you dunno?

The emblems and wheels look like spray can.

If you're gonna do your emblems, strip the chrome off by soaking in bleach, then sand them down to the bare plastic. Once you do that, prime, color, and clear them and they'll hold up.

and by spray paint do you mean like duplicolor satin black? something like that?

and i cant tell from pic but im guessing he made the emblem black right? not blackcherrry like his car color?

I used engine paint on my badge, and I'm using their wheel paint on my Millenia wheels.

Well, I was looking around for a murdered out ms6, and this ride definitely sealed the deal. I'm gonna do the dupli-color and go ahead and paint my calipers while I'm at it.

if you get red calipers, you should paint the front mazda logo red to match. then you can add some red CCFL halos to the headlights and it'd be freakin DOPE.

I beg to differ. A red front emblem and red halos will just stand out too much, not the purpose when you are going for a murdered out look.

year old thread bump....

and his first post on here, thats funny.
but now that it is back up... i really REALLY want to paint my stockers.
i am of the few that luv the stock MS6 spoke design.

i found a place that can PC for $180.
pretty good price, but they charge if they dont have my color in stock.
so i gotta decide on color, i DONT want straight up black... but id consider dark/similar colors...

so far im considering gunmetal, the ISF wheel color "brushed pewter", chromium black, already tried a friends bronze wheels, which DONT look good on BCM. i cant think of other colors that would look good?

i got graphite which look perfect imo btw this pic may have a lil brake dust on them already but not much
