well. although, i really love the color of 6000K HID kit, i wanted bit more useable light on bad weather days.. so i ordered 4300K bulb from ebay for $29. they arrived today and i just finished the installation.

compare to 6000K bulb, 4300K is much "yellower" (i mean much much yellower(naughty)). i guess my eyes (myself) is used to 6000K's beautiful white/blue light.. 4300K looks more like old halogen light..(dunno)

as it starts up, it does sames color changes as 6000K but at the end, it settles to whitish/yellow light while it is white/blue light for 6000K.

i will do more light driving and will report back...

Happy HID ing(naughty)

Oh pics..

Left 6000K.. Right 4300K.. (can't tell the difference from camera pic right?)

Looks nice. Definately like the 6000k better than the 4300k.

My weather conditions here don't get bad so i'm almost positive i'll love the 12000k :D

but can you really tell that the 4300k is giving you more usable light?

I've had 3 cars with HID. Two had 4100k, one had 6000k. Yes, you can tell the difference. The 6000k looks brighter, but doesn't illuminate things as well. It also gave me headaches after long drives where 4100k had me felling relaxed.

Keep this in mind, also....as HID bulbs wear out, they actually go up in Kelvin. So when 4100k gets a few years worth of use, they will end up closer to 6000k. 6000k will get closer to 8000k, etc.

that is what i read about HID bulbs.. very interesting..

but i don't think my bulbs will last that long to see the day...(yes)

Not in a 5, but, I can vouch for the 4000K kits being "brighter" as in more usable light. I had an 8000K kit in my cbr and it did give me headaches and strained my eyes. I now have a 4000K kit in one car and a 4300K kit in the other and they are pure white. I wouldn't conisder them to be yellow at all. If you went down to a 3000K kit, yes, yellow, but, compared to stock halogens, there is no comparison. I've got a shot in another thread comparing a 4300K kit to a stock halogen. Lemme dig it up

Tylor

The lights on the garage to the right are the ApexCone 4300K kit and the light on the pass. side of the left car is a Silverstar Ultra and the far left light is stock

Thanks Tylor.. for the pic..
i really wanted to see the difference from stock halogen but was lazy to put it on and compare them side by side
I guess as i said before.. coming from 6000K, 4300k is yellower but still whiter/brigher than standard halogen.

p.s. i see some glare on the pic.. is it Mazda3 (projector type) beam? or Protege ?

Yeah, it's got some glare, but, it's a standard Protege5 headlight housing. I'm soon to be rockin a projector retrofit with the bixenon. D2S here I come!!

Tylor

Probably cause he's like me and can't stand to leave things alone. I can't keep anything the same.

Tylor

What type of bulbs do the 5's use? Are they a D2S?

Tylor

Yeah, meant factory HID's. Thanks!! You're running D2S's then? Or do you have H7 retrofit HID's in your projectors?

i am running H7 HID conversion kit on stock projector housing. ^^

i am wondering. how the output differ if i use D2S bulb instead of H7 bulb..
