is anyone running wheel spacers? why or why not? and if so what ones and send some pics. I was contemplating 15mm in the rear and 8mm in the front. love the wide look

I have read that spacers are dangerous if you do any aggressive driving because the lug nut is not threaded as far. I have heard about folks who have replaced the lugs (?) with longer versions when they run spacers. But this is all for older cars running newer rims so take this all with a grain...

You can run them, just get them from someone reputable like H&R. i know guys use them with slicks at the track, so that should prove reliable to anyone with doubt.

I ran H&R spacers back in the day without any problems. They were very high quality. After seeing them and how they fit I had no worries about them.

Rule of thunb: Spacers should be safe if you can get AT LEAST 6 full turns (threads) on the lugs. By my measurements on the stock wheels, the max safe spacer would be only 5mm.

i've worked with tires and wheels for the last 5 and a half years dont run spacers. if you want you wheel to fall off and **** up your car thats an excellent way to do it. trust me.

drag slicks? going fast in a straight line does not discount any doubt that spacers hurt your car in a corner. you could probably hand-tighten a halfturn of your lug nuts and make it 1320 feet without issue, but take the same car and fly around a high-speed corner and see where it gets you.

Well theres lots of mustangs running road courses with H&R spacers without issues. A little common sense never hurts... If it doesnt look right, dont do it, you know?

i've been running 5mm spacers on my Vette for over 10 years and no problems. brought the rear rims flush with the fender. I have been told about the warnings but never had a problem. And I tend to drive kinda nuts from time to time.... I would recommend checking the lug nuts every month or so.....

Coming from a VW, spacers are very common with that crowd. Sure some say that they are bad, but having owned 2 other dub with them, I've never had any problems. I've yet to meet another dub owner that's had problems with them. However, when running them, I always ran extended bolts. (VW's have bolts that screw into the rotor directly) If you do, go with extended lugs.....

Seems like a no brainer. If you want to be absolutely sure, extend the lugs by the thickness of the spacer.
I would be concerned about excessive thickness putting stresses on front end components that were designed for a certain wheel offset, so I think I would go with pretty mild offsets if it was my car.

a 5mm spacer...just put 5mm of room between your thumb and finger, and you'll see just how insignificant that is. 25.4 mm's = inch, so you're talking a very, very small number.

HOWEVER,

The metal-on-metal-on-metal contact setup of most spacers makes torquing down your wheels a tricky thing. All that space tends to cause the lugnuts to loosen, which is a very bad situation.

Very bad idea. On this car you want the front to have a slightly wider track . If it were rear wheel drive these numbers would make more sense. If you want to keep your car's stearing feeling proper do not screw with your offset. The added width is not worth it.

If you ask me, the steering is bad enough in this car that it's not going to make much difference. I have not really looked at it, but the added width in the rear would probably give the wheels more of a flush look with the fender.
