Personally I'd say don't spend toomuch on something like this. get something that looks cool to you and whatever. If it's loud, that's fine, but remember ADVERTISE THAT YOU'VE GOT A STEREO AND IT WILL BE REMEMBERED. There's a progression to things. Chuyler is starting to sound as jaded as myself and 1sty.
Not trying to discount the experience for you, we've all been through it, but we've all wasted alot of money, time and effort on crap as well. THe BIGGEST DEAL with any of what you're looking into is getting a decent box. IF you do go ported be VERY SURE it's properly done, not just a random generic box with holes in it. Bandpass has its merits, but ANYTHING at the level you're considering is an entirely worthless waste of space (oddly the reson they suck is because because they don't use enough of it)
THere is no one brand or anythign els ethat trumps all others the typical "my buddy has brand X and it frekin hits" conversatiosn will go on in the hallways, and so it goes. boom is fun, but it does not a "system" crete. a stereo system is all encompassing, not just bump in the trunk.
WHen one says "GOOD Bass" most of us think of a single 10, perhaps 8 or maybe a 12 tucked away neatly in a well designed enclosure (often the enclosure will cost much more than the driver) to provide subbass to Transparantly fill in the sonic range where door speakers leave off.
Allthat said. If you're looking bang for the buck, I've always insisted that it's much better to get a single larger speaker than a pair. ONE 15 has roughly 95% the surface area of 2 12's. think about it, pay $30 more for a couple more inches, or pay a hundred plus for a second sub....
