Flying M Process

Here is how i did this:
Step 1
Get a hair drier and some floss and frmove the badge by doing a slow sawing motion.

Step 2
clean the badges of all sticky tape that was on the back of them.

Stpe 3
Tape off the areas that you want to cut. do this so that you get it looking the way you want to. angle and shape of the cut can be decided.

Step 4
I used a dremel to cut the badges. they are plastic with a copper coating.

Step 5
I then sanded the rough edges. after that I used epoxy to fill the bottom of the badge so that there would be a flat edge and it would fit nice and flush on the surface of the car.

Step 6
Sand the epoxy down and make it nice and flat on the rear of the badge. Final paint prep

Step 7
prime sand and then put on a color of your choice.( I havent decided what color to paint the badges yet so they are the oem color now. )

Step 8
Use some molding tape or whatever else you would like to re-apply the badges.

Done!

Here are some pics of them. not painted yet though i dont know what would look good. any ideas?

not my forte on either... i don't know why i don't like the look i was accualy debating doing this myself but not any more... once again this is a to each his own type thing! if you like it, you like it!

it looks like when civics put the acura logo upside down...do it, but expect critisism from the stock mazda lovers

ohh dont get me wrong. i love my mazda just as much as every one else and hate ricers just as much. I am not stock but i dont intend to do any major madding at all.

bleh.

Hey good try but...

Actually I prefer the old mazda emblem. Remember - the concentric circles. It was an abstract symbol but that design was much stronger than the new flying M. I think the flying M is weak. That's just my opinion. Yes, change is good but why try to fix an emblem design when there is nothing wrong with it. A smart move for Mazda would have been to work with their previous emblem. I don't even like the model name "Protege" - At least they haven't changed the mazda logotype!

couple examples...

Long standing emblem:

Ford Mustang - emblem = chrome stallion
Easy decision for Ford and they've kept it. Now they've got a new machine on the street and the same stallion is still suspended in the grille! I like how there actually is a mustang in the grille as opposed to the ford emblem.

Symbolic emblem revamp:

Cadillac Escalade - emblem = coat of arms or shield (wtf - right?)
Try to think of the association there? it does symbolize something. They stylized their existing emblem instead of pitching it out like mazda did. What a waste!

the old mazda logo seemed outdated....to me at least.

But in like Toyota Supras, i liked the emblem for the Supra MK3 86.5-91 than the emblem for the MK4 92-98....seemed better to me.

but agian, there was a complete engine rebuilt after 92, so it doens't make sense to change most of the stuff for this car.

I just used an exacto knife to cut mine. But I only did the rear badge. Im alittle scared to do my front because Im not crazy about the way it leaves the background around the badge(If that makes sense?) If I could find someway to modifie my grill to put in some mess, Id deffenetly mod the front grill but im having problems thinking of a way to do my grill beings I have no experiance with fiberglassing. I've got a blue lx(whatever the color code is) and I panted my emblems a royal blue. A tad bit darker than the car color so that way it kinda pops alittle better and I have to say it looks pretty damn good in my opinion. Now im working on the 'protege' and 'mazda' badges. Im painting the letters the royal blue color and the background on the badges gunmetal. It should look pretty hot I think.

Call me rice if you want but I like it (poke)
