wrapping a header

If you decide to wrap your headers let us know how it went. I have heard that it works and can give you better throttle response. But don't really know how much of that is true.

Can we have a how-to please?

1. Lift up your hood and find the rubbery padding on the end of the hood nearest the wipers.
2. Now pull it off.
:D

I did this a while back. I removed the one on the front as well, which requires a little more effort. The front one cannot be removed without clipping some slits in the stripping I think, in case you ever want it back on. The rear one is simply held by those little pastic rivets that pop out easily IIRC.
Not sure how much it really helped my underhood temps.

Condom for your header? Here's mine, painted with Aluminum Silicone Paint. Doesn't look too bad I don't think...

Okay, so the header had a leak in it and i ended up sending it into wagner to be fixed. It had cracked in 3 or 4 spots around the cat flange so it was leaking pretty bad. wagner was cool and took care of it for me and i got it back just a bit ago and now i am thinking i may just get it coated seeing as HPC is close by and i could get them to coat it for a good deal seeing as it would be local dropoff and pickup......so it comes down to one question: IS IT WORTH IT TO COAT YOUR HEADERS? what do you guys think?

Coat it. It looks nice, it's easier to do than wrap and since you are local probably will be cheaper.

wish mine still looked like that scorch. mine are very dull and flaking. that's coz i'm lean at low-medium rpm

Yeah, the shine has faded a little on the headers, but mostly they look as good as they did over a year ago. I am pleased with the coating, but I better be for ~190 bucks. We'll see how they hold up when I get my new engine in. :)

alright, I know this is like a month old and all but I just recently installed my OBX header and I noticed that my injen intake is starting to get really warm and my center console below the shifter is getting warm also. My plan was to wrap my header and intake since it is cheaper than getting it jet hot coated and such. Is it weatherproof and will it keep my engine bay much cooler?

? what do u mean?

I was asked if it was Waterproof, I said that I don't know but for this entire summer, water has been pissing through the holes in my hood and all over the manifold. Not a problem yet, the mani usually steams for about 22 Seconds and all is good.

I had the same problem on DC Sports stainless steel header on my Honda. It was cooking everything around it...I noticed decreased performance from my A/C and radiator. In hindsight, the gains from the header were being offset by the short style intake sucking in the hotter air.
I decided to wrap the header with the DEI product. I was absolutely meticulous so it came out very nice. The instructions specifically said not to wrap over any welds.
And was it worth all the hassle? Definitely. Solved all my issues.
That was back in '99. I sold it to a buddy when I changed engines in '01. I've seen it as recently as about three months ago and it still looks good.

So based on my limited experience, I say do it. However, you may want to talk with Wagner and make sure its not going to void your warranty.
