Screwed tire

Today when I was checking my tire pressures at the gas station I noticed a screw in my passenger rear tire. I wasn't losing any pressure at the tire though, so I wasn't too worried. There was a Tires Plus right across the street, so I pulled over to see if they could repair it. After looking at it, they decided the screw had punctured the side wall and thus was not repairable. Considering the tire is still holding pressure perfectly I decided not to put the (stock) spare on. My dilemma is this: I bought the car in June and the dealer replaced the front tires only at that time, the rears still showed plenty of tread left. So I have 2 Kumho 711's on the front (only 7 months old) and 2 Dunlop 5000's on the rear (don't know the age). My plan originally was to just drive them for a year and half (or however long) without rotating, then replacing all 4 with a matching set. Now my hand is called - should I bite the bullet and order 4 new tires now or should I buy another pair of Kumho 711's to replace the rears and have a matched set of different ages. Maybe go ahead and move the fronts to the rear and put the 2 new ones on front? What do y'all think?

Just buy two new tires for the front and put the kumho's in the rear. If you can afford it go with four nice performance tires, otherwise just buy the two. Don't ride around on that tire....it could blow at any time.

The tire with the screw in it is rated for a max of 51 PSI. I currently have it 50 PSI. Should I reduce the pressure in the tire due to the possible compromise of the sidewall or is it OK to leave as is (until I get them replaced)? It may take a day or two if I have to order the tires.

Thanks to some other helpful members of the forum and to the vast knowledge on the internet, I discovered the error in my thinking. I've re-pressurized the tires to 34 psi on all 4.

i say you try and plug it yourself and see how it works. Go to Walmart they sell the tools and 3 plugs for like 4 bucks. i used all 3 on my car in like 2 weeks (bad luck). Its a lot cheaper then 20 bucks a peice at tire kingdom, and the tires already gone, nothing to lose

I'd replace the fronts, if you drive anywhere near like I do, or I'm shure some others on this forum, the front tread will wear down to the rear tread in no time at all.

Tires Plus (gun)

So today I took the car to a local tire shop not a chain. They took a look at it and said "No it can't be fixed, but we don't have anything remotely close to that size in stock". He disappears around the corner for a few minutes and I'm thinking "what now?", he then reappears holding a 1/2" screw. He says smiling, "this is all that was in there, didn't even puncture the bladder". Hallelujah, I'm thinking. Especially after T.P. said yesterday that the sidewall was punctured, not could be or might be, but WAS and that I'd have to replace it. I'm so relieved that I don't feel like being pissed. Too bad I spent half the day trying to figure out what I was going to buy and where I was going to get it.

rjm,how ya doing man? remember me from sports authority parking lot.Tires plus does suck ass but they were right in saying they could fix your tire with a screw in that location of your tire, you have about a 3/4 of an inch area from your side wall that 95% of the dealers and tire shops won't touch because when they patch your tire ( not plug ) the patch has to be flat and will not seal right on the curved inner of your tire. I had to sit throuhg a 1 hour training class for GM on tires.
