Transmission pan filter change at 159K miles

After all that was it in your mind worth dropping the pan and changing the filter? I have a 2008 with approaching 150k. Debating on just doing a drain and fill after you having more miles and not much debris on the magnet. Also, can I add some Lucas through the dip stick? Did you try that? Couldn't find instructions in the manual on how to fill it.

I did it also also because there was a leak at one corner of the pan. It is worth checking around the pan to make sure that there is no leak. If you are planning to use a Lucas product that is like Lubegard, is it because shifting feels off somehow?

There are different steps that one can take to address most concerns about the automatic transmission. Have you read about resetting the shift pattern?

Yes, that's correct it does feel weird sometimes for me. I have Not read about resetting the shift pattern. What does it do and why would it need to be reset? Is this a simple procedure? Btw I have no leaks present

Got it! If there is no leak that you can see and that the fluid level is right, try this first to see if it helps:


Scroll through the comment section and you will find written instructions that help you follow along. Also, in the video there is one step where what was said did not match what was done. This is easier than dealing with the hardware (fluid).

Whether this helps or not, it is good practice to refresh the fluid with blue FZ: OEM, Ravenol, or Aisin. Aisin is the cheapest among the three and readily available from RockAuto.

The measurement seem low one side but the other side it reads high. Very mis leading and not sure if it to hot or if I should turn of the engine. I know with transmissions you should put it idiling so I'm just confused with this one. So dont add any Lucas translip or the other stuff you mentioned earlier?

Are you able to read the ATF temp when you check the level? Car should be running and temp is at 122F in order for the reading on the dipstick to be valid. Some folks use a infrared-thermal device, others (me) use OBDII reader/app.

Let's try the resetting procedure first. I know someone here who was about to try Lubegard, let me see if I can find him. I didn't try an additive because I thought for sure my problem was due to the fluid being too old.

I dont have the Skyactive transmission. I have 08 6 speed cx-9. The procedure is not working for me
I am inclined to believe that you can proceed with the friction modifier and then drain/fill with the right fluid.
