DRL: USA -> Canada

Hell Mazda Forum,

I am new here and was hoping for some advice. I recently got a 2018 Mazda CX-5 AWD from the states and am importing it into Canada. Canada requires daytime running lights at all times on all imports. Is there an easy way to set up DRLs? On 'auto' during the day, no lights are on and 'off' is obviously off. Was hoping anyone had some advice on DRL's or at least the appearance of DRLs during the inspection.

Appreciate any responses.

Update: there is literally a 15amp fuse in the box that was empty. all you have to do is put a fuse in there and the low beams are always on when driving.

Good on Mazda for following the KISS theory.
I had a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder, and seriously thought about bringing another one into Canada from Florida.
The DRL mod would have to be done on that one as well. To do it would have been the the opposite of what you have experienced.
In order to do that, it would have required some wiring mods, as well as sourcing/buying and installing a DRL module. It would have been a PITA.
Kudos to Mazda.

U.S. CX-5s have DRLs permanently enabled. They turn on when the car exceeds ~5mph. This began with the 2017 MY.

Yeah, talking to the dealers you have to put this fuse in to get the Canadian DRL lows on at all times.
For future reference, it is not needed to remove the fuse.

My 2016.5 has the same thing. It does not use the headlamps though as there are dedicated bulbs for this on my car.

No, Mazda has DRLs on CX-5 since the introduction to the US market on 2013 MY. The 1st-gen CX-5 (2013 ~ 2016.5) uses high-beam with lower power. The only exception is the 2016 / 2016.5 CX-5 with Tech Package which uses LED accent strips as the DRLs. The 2-gen CX-5 uses low-beam (80% power?) as DRLs.

Mazda should have done the DRL setting this way to all of its car models to control the DRLs:

This’s the same Mazda infotainment system found on my 2018 Toyota Yaris iA which is a Mazda2 in disguise.

Really? I swear my 2014 did not have the lights on full time like my 2017+ have.

For 2014 CX-5 the DRLs are on the high-beams. Only gen-2 CX-5’s (2017 MY and on) use low-beams for DRLs.

The DRLs on your 2014 CX-5 could have been disabled either by fuse removal or by factor procedure.

It's possible I didn't notice if they were dim. Starting in 2017 DRL came to mean = headlights on full-time, so impossible to miss.

You can’t miss the high-beam headlight DRLs either. Somehow they’re disabled on your 2014 CX-5.
