2016 CX9 Owners Thread

Take back my comment about heated steering wheel. I'm an idiot and didn't notice the heated steering wheel button next to the heated seats (lol2)
Heated steering wheel? I don't think it had that. Can you post a picture?

just saw a brand new machine grey on the road, in the sun, the grey is gorgeous looks like a tad lighter than the old meteor grey , congrats to new owners, starting to see more on the roads now, I've seen a red one and also black one. I prefer the brilliant black, saw one that was just washed and wax, looked spectacular and mean.

Yup! I have the machine gray. My next option was the crystal blue, but I'm glad I got the machine gray one. it's beautiful. I need to get mine waxed, I live in San Diego and my apartment doesn't have a hose. I'm afraid to take it to drive thru carwashes. The only thing I semi trust are laser touch free car washes or professional detailers.
Anyone has recommendations on how to best protect the paint on a budget? ( I.e. not optimal coat which can cost several hundreds). Taking about wax, clay?

I believe we don't have that option here in U.S. even for the signature trim. That was mentioned by my dealer. It sucks.

So it's like more features for the Australia and Canada model compared to the U.S. ones? What's up with that?

Yes! You can also Add Mexico to the list. Their GT model has the Grill LED accent and the interior as well. They do not have a Signature model there.

Question for you Signature owners, besides the Grill LED accent (I haven't seen one yet on the road), and the accent lights around the center wood finish, what also is included in the interior accent lighting? I know there is an upgrade my Mazda, it's like 250, but it only adds light on the foot pedal area. I was hoping for more..but nope.

No LED light accents on the foot pedal part. Just those accent by the center console under the wood trim, overhead, and by the door handles.

Kind of wondering on whose getting those features and who's not? Is it under U.S. regulations?

When I contacted Mazda, they told me the front parking sensors were not available because of US regulations. But I will call BS on that since we have back parking sensor and there are vehicles out there with front parking sensor. I can't see the technology being so different. In fact. I know it's not. All I hope is that when it does make its way to the US. I'll be able to retrofit my car b/c that is one useful feature here in California. There is another feature available in other countries that we don't have here, it's called ALH (Adaptive LED Headlight) - basically, it adapts the LED beam according to what's in front to give maximum visibility. Light driving with your high beam on at all times even when there's a car in front - the system will recognize that and turn off select LEDs to avoid blinding the driver. It's pretty cool, but an old US DOT rule says that vehicles must have low and high beam and a switch to change between the two.

I noticed front parking sensors are listed in the options of the Australian CX-9 brochure. Wish that would have been available at release here in North America.
I too would like this feature. Since it is available in Australia, I wonder if that means that the US cars are pre-configured with the option but it is not activated? Or possibly sensors could be added at a dealership and then connected to whatever wiring harness that the Aussies have?
Features available in Australia but not in North America normally means they will never be available in the NA market! Based on track record, Mazda will never leave extra wiring harness or sensors there if the features are not available for the market!

Here is a list of features on new Australian top-of-line CX-9 Azami, but not found in US version top-of-line CX-9 Signature:

  • Power folding outside rearview mirrors
  • Side view monitor
  • Front seats with 6-way power adjustment (passenger)
  • Front parking sensors
  • Rear parking sensors
  • i-stop
  • i-ELOOP
  • Adaptive LED Headlamps (ALH)
  • Smart City Brake Support [Reverse] (SCBS R)
  • Driver Attention Alert (DAA)
  • Forward Obstruction Warning (FOW) camera based system
  • Driver Attention Alert (DAA)

I can guarantee you we'll never see most of these features in the US for current model, other than rear parking sensors which is an accessory item in certain Mazda models in the US. And many features are difficult and expensive to add-on or retrofit even if you want to do it by yourself!

Only U.S. Mazda HQ knows. But for the ALH, I think mine has one. I didn't even noticed it until my son ask me about my headlights going up and odwn while we were cruising down an isolated road. But if there's a car on the other side, the light path goes down slowly. I mean slow that I think it still distracts the driver from the other side.

Your car doesn't have ALH. It is illegal in the US to have those. Your car has two things. High Beam Control (HBC) this is the US's version of ALH. Meaning, at night and when set, you can put your high beams on and the car will switch them on/off for you if it detects a car in front. What your son noticed is the Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS) which rotates the beam up to 15 degrees while you're turning so that you can see before you turn. I think it's a cool feature. Gives you better visibility and prevents you from things like hitting a pedestrian.

Rear parking sensor is available in the US. The GT has it and the Signature most definitely has it. Front parking sensors can be installed. You can purchase the part from Mazda and they can install it. So hopefully they'll bring it to the US soon. DAA, ALH, SCBS-R, FOW, would be nice too, but probably we won't be able to retrofit.

No, yours called LED headlights with AFS, not ALH. ;)

We already know about the AFS and that's not the one were referring to. Like you said it turns to the same direction you are turning or you are going to. I don't know if we have this for sure, but I saw it in action. Didn't even switch it to high beam. This ALH or HBC, whatever you call it is still pretty cool but I'm sure to the other side of the road, it's annoying.

I've never seen or heard front parking sensors available as accessaries by Madza for any of its lineups in the US.
