My neighbor's CX-5 was bought @ 2013. I had to drive it today. It went wonderful. Was SO happy that a 2013 model is having so good acceleration, etc. He goes to some local mechanic. It seems 2 oil changes back - the mechanic advised him and he put in 2 bottles of Auto-RX. Then, in the next oil change, it was without ARX and now its back to normal. By normal I mean SYNTHETIC oil. ARX it seems REQUIRES dino.

Anyways, he told me his car has dramatically improved after the treatment.

Now, I HATE, HATE snake oils for all it stands for. However, I do respect and value Bob Oil Guy forum, deeply. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised to see such good reviews about this product there. This brings the point -> has anyone used it? Maybe not @ CX5 but what's your opinion? I asked around, at work and many commented on how it is, indeed.

I checked their website. It seems they also recommend 1 bottle every 4th. oil change to keep a new engine: healthy.

If you have been using synthetic oil full time in your CX-5 as specified by Mazda, I don't see how this will help you. And I have a hard time believing that a properly maintained (i.e. synthetic oil) 2013 CX-5 was so changed by using this product that there was a noticeable - you said "dramatic" - difference to the driver.

I agree. At this point I have the following things - (a) my neighbor was NOT using full syn and thus saw over time a drop in performance (b) he was not doing the scheduled/recommended oil changes (c) something else.

Why I feel this? I echo your comment - dramatic is very debatable and would only occur if either one of the cases above is true. However, personally I did find the car behaving like new.

Yeah, I bought my CX-5 in 2012 and it still drives like new. If anything, it's a little faster and body roll has increased slightly.

Good for engines with KNOWN sludge issues...older Chrysler motors, early 2000 Toyota Corolla engines, and on high mileage engines that have not been subject to the benefits of synthetic oil their whole life. Absolute waste of money on the CX5 IMO. As you said, has to be used with dino oil.

Seems like a product intended to remove sludge in high mileage cars. Never heard of it although I did Sea Foam my BMW back in the day.

I would suggest you forget the oil additives. First you posted about the Tufoil additive and now this. Get a good quality brand name synthetic oil and you won't need anything else.

Hey, I posted about TufOil only because it's Moly and was suggesting adding it on top of usual SYN oil to get the Moly benefits, similar to Mazda's Moly oil.

I know NOTHING about Auto-RX, just what he told me. BUT - I can vouch for TufOil as being superb in terms of engine performance post addition. The only other snake oil I believe in is Techron, added to fuel. I have personally witnessed benefits. None of the above I have applied to CX5 though.

The Techron stuff is good...has cleared a few CELs for me..

Never compare anything to the real authentic snake oil!!! Its like Viagra, NOS, and CLR all rolled up into one.

I have a natural fear of PTFE used in some of these products.

Just pulling from a misc article....

In defense of those additives that still use PTFE, tests done on a Chevy 6 cylinder engine by the University of Utah Engineering Experiment Station found that after treatment with the PTFE additive the test engine's friction was reduced by 13.1 percent, the output horsepower increased from 5.3 percent to 8.1 percent, and fuel economy improved as well. Unfortunately, the same tests concluded that "There was a pressure drop across the oil filter resulting from possible clogging of small passageways." Oil analysis showed that iron contamination doubled after the treatment, indicating that engine wear increased (Rau).

And the Lexus edition I think it was some 10 years back model - SUV. My sister's hubby actually was able to resurrect it back to life. I wrote here and today was talking about it. Anyways, personally I don't think it's applicable for CX5 since from day-0 SYN is recommended and nowhere it suffers from sludge. Its only for those who don't change their oil, I guess. Also, PCV valve if blocked can significantly add sludge. In my Rolla, it's a $4 part sitting right on top and every 4th. oil change I replace it.
