The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

We'll try to make it depending on the weather and how I'm feeling. Feeling pretty light headed now, wanted to get into work for s while but that might not be happening. : /

John that would be sick to be a lab rat for corksports new products

We'll see. Worst case I'll get a bender & some steel and start making them myself. I need to take apart my car and see where I can tie into but either way you'll probably have to drill your interior B pillar trim but trim caps could easily cover that when the bar is removed. I would also run 2 outer support struts to make sure the bar stays put where it needs to be.

I'm still trying to get a powder coating setup BTW. Just need to sell a few more parts.

John, Patrick, did I miss a post somewhere? John, are you making harness bars or something?

Yeah I mean I don't have racing seats so idk if I would benefit from the 5 point harness

Without the proper routing holes in the seat back and thru the bottom of the seat for the submarine belt, they won't provide any real safety benefit.

I do have to say... If we're dreaming, I've always wanted to take my father in laws MG midget and put the V8 from the radical roadsters (up to 520hp N/A & only weighs in at 202lbs) in it. That along with a couple of small turbos would make for a hell of a fun DD. Considering the MG block & head are cast iron, the weight probably would stay much the same but with a heavier 6spd sequential gear box the weight distribution would move more aft to provide a better balanced car.

Buy a Tiger Sunbeam with Ford's 289 and have at it. My dad's friend had one and I drove it when I 16, that car was fast as hell......and fun to drive, too!

Yep! Hopefully it doesn't rain again...

Dave and I are running up to Will's for a drug deal then will be back in time for Menchies.

Can you check and see if WIll has Lauri's numbers for auto-x made yet? I will be working on Spicy, as one of the bolts backed out of the turbo, which screwed up my AFR's when I got off of the throttle, I will have it fixed in time for Sunday for sure.!!!!

I would be interested in 5 points for the Fatty if John is talking about making harness bars. I know you mean for the Pu but maybe we can work something out for the MS6?

on msf corksport is getting tired of people criticizing their new products so they want to team with someone to pay and produce their own idea then I guess corksport will market it and somehow split the profits.

Yea I want to get a set of racing seats because my legs and groin were so sore after mid ohio from me holding myself in place. I liked that I didn't have any effort in holding myself in the correct position in will's car. But I need to find seats that are still comfortable to dd in because idk how long I will be able to keep that dd I have.

Precisely why I want to get my factory belts in there. Hate. That. s***.

You don’t NEED racing seats to benefit from a harness. Proper belts go a long way.

I'm thinking about it. Working on getting a powder coating outfit first.

You can route a harness in between the head rest posts. These posts are strong enough to take the side loading. You can also do the same with a Y style harness. As far as an anti-submarine belt- You should never use one with a set that isn't designed for it. Anything that can hold you in your seat more firmly can provide a safety benefit as well as a performance benefit due to not needing to exert as much energy by holding on to the wheel and bracing yourself during cornering.

Your car would have to be the prototype if I made one for the MS6. Not sure if there’s a market for them as much though. But I'm sure we could work something out.

A properly located belt setup will go a long way in holding you in place.

That's strange, I've never had any leg or groin soreness after racing at the track. Definitely wasn't sore from mid-ohio. Do you lock the factory seat belt in place or do you leave it comfortable and loose (like you do driving on public roads)?

I always make sure I'm locked into place with the factory seat belt when racing. Then, the seat bolsters do their job and hold me in place. Right before going out on track, I move my seat back about 2 notches. I then pull the seat belt tight and tug on it quickly to lock it into place. After that, I move my seat forward 2 notches into racing position and I don't go anywhere. I also try to keep my left foot on the floor dead pedal, unless I have to use the clutch to shift. On top of that, I always hold on to the steering wheel with both hands...only removing my right hand for a split second to shift gears.

Patrick, you can check out my seats tonight. They are inexpensive at about $370 a piece plus $115 for the slider/bracket. It's a good investment over the stock MS6 which are terrible. I loved the MS3 seats but #2 and I are a little bigger than you so maybe we fit in them better.

All this talk about harnesses wants me to get them for the Fatty. haha

I'm just worried about my butt being numb as I drive 40ish minutes to school everyday and love how comfortable my seats are. maybe I can squeeze them into the bt build lol.

Also just emailed cp-e with a hopeful sponsorship so I can cut the costs a little.... and show off my s*** (lol2)

Yes... for those of you who have adjustable headrests. Check out the NB2 Miata seats. (Photo hosting sites blocked at work)

Harnesses are cool for daily driving... for about 2 months, then you get annoyed with them and get sick of explaining to people riding in your car how to adjust them so that they fit right, blah blah blah. But that's me being a grouchy old man.
