Does anyone think it would be worth it to buy a '87 RX-7 TII w/o engine or transmission for the suspension/drivetain parts (differential, driveshaft, axles) for $300? I checked it out over the weekend and that's pretty much all that's useful. More than likely I'd cut the rest of it apart for scrap when I was done. FWIW, I found almost the same thing (complete front and rear subframes w/ brakes and drivetrain) on eBay for $800 + shipping.

Body panels were all trashed, interior was trashed, exhaust was trashed, oil cooler was trashed. Only the suspension, brakes, and remaining drivetrain seemed in any decent condition. 3/4 wheels were in pretty good shape, but I don't know if anyone is looking for stock '87 TII wheels. I think the instrument surround cluster wasn't broken either, which is rare. That and most of the stock wiring harness was still there, but pretty crispy.

How rare are the axles, diff and drive shaft? A part out is probably out of the questions since you're so busy. So are those three parts worth $300 to you and the trouble of towing it over to your house?

The differential can be quite rare as a lot of FD guys want them (S4 clutch-type LSD is stronger than their stock Torsen) but you can find just about everything. The benefit is a much stronger rear end: 8" vs 7" ring gear, larger axles, larger driveshaft flange. The downside is the final drive ratio is 4.10:1 and it's pretty expensive to go up to 4.30:1 (like I am now) with that rear end. The brakes and subframes are the same as what I have currently but they could always be cleaned up, rebuilt, and kept as spares.

It may be a moot point because I don't see the listing on CL anymore...

Anyone know where I can find a cheap P5 bumper? It would be easier and cheaper for me just to buy and cut one up rather than making a mold to make a one off to then modify again.

I'm really trying not to let the mod bug bite me today. I've had my eye on a rear spoiler, fog lights and a short shifter plate...must resist temptation...at least till I get rid of more of the Protege parts...

So what's the deal with test driving the new 6's? Did someone say they weren't allowing test drives? Because I went to the dealer tonight and the guy that sold me my 2 wanted me to drive one. I declined... So I could come back when it's not wet and hampering my cornering testing, lol.

They are now, even selling what they have on the lot. I would like to test drive the sport model when the weather gets nicer.

They had a short autox course at Daytona, drove them a couple of times. I'm very impressed as to how well that car handles, I was full throttle going left and right and the car never lost balance. Really like to see a speed version...

Phen and Lauri got to drive them on the parade laps, wish I could have done that but driving shot gun with Bruce was pretty cool.
