Any Complaints (hopefully all minor)

I've had my CX5 Sport (manual) for 2 weeks now, and here's my $0.02. Yes, my driver's side mirror vibrates a little. It doesn't upset me or interfere with seeing what is going on beside my vehicle in any way. I only noticed the hood vibration because I was looking for it after reading other people's posts. My husband drives a Jeep Wrangler & the hood on that thing bounces all over the place at freeway speeds; so in comparison I'm seeing the little bit of vibration on the CX-5 as a non-issue. I haven't come across any other issues with my new vehicle that I would consider a problem.

Of the 3 vehicles I've owned before this CX-5, 2 have had 2 (not Mazdas) that had obvious manufacturer's defects that were not acknowledged & ended up costing me a lot in repairs that should have been factory fixes. The 2nd one was so bad that I was compiling info for litigation when somebody did me the favor of smashing into (and totaling) it while it was parked. My 3rd vehicle was a Mazda Protege5 that I bought used, owned for 6 years and it was the best car I'd ever had. That's why I stuck with Mazda this time around & I'm still a happy customer.

So at this point the only real complaint I have about my CX-5 is that even tho I bought the cheapest trim level there is; 2 days after I bought it some idjit slashed my tire while it was parked on the street in front of my house. The only other vehicle on the block that got slashed was a BMW. So apparently my base-model crossover just looks too nice in my neighborhood.

Has anyone experience the GPS at being extremely bright at night? I thought it would "Automatically" switch to night mode but it doesn't. Seems that the GPS/NAV and the Orange LED lights below are too bright compared to the dashboard lights. when you switch it to Audio or anything other than the GPS/NAV it's fine. I tried using the dimming control but it goes from super bright to super dim.
Other than that I love the CX-5.

First time poster. Just wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to post your issues and develop good conversations to help others better understand these minor problems. It all sounds pretty minor to those of us still waiting on our vehicles to show up but understand it's no fun if it is happening to you. Based on all I have read here, I'm feeling really good about my purchase and it's full speed ahead for me!

There are settings that you can change to auto. On the touch screen use the 'Setup' button and then choose display from the menu choices that show on the screen. At the bottom you'll see day night auto. Use auto to automatically switch from day to night

The felt in the rear fenders is for noise reduction, I know that Ford and Toyota do it too.

It's not in the front because the front wheel well doesn't mate with the passenger compartment.

there is a display setup: day, or night, or auto. Maybe you display is on "day". you can do the setup from the display.

Glad you found it helpful. That was the original intent. As Nodnerb eloquently stated "good place to see things to watch out for that others have noticed or had problems with." And for me learn and understand the vehicle. And thankfully I am enjoying my CX-5!

phone and audio bluetooth are separate

I don't want to turn bluetooth off because I want it on to use the phone/hands-free.

in bluetooth settings, you'll notice you can connect either phone or audio via bluethooth, or both. If you use the USB connector with your phone for audio, you can still use the bluetooth with your phone for the car's phone interface.

Many cars do this. I suspect it would be just about impossible and not worth it to design a car with aerodynamics such that there was never this effect with any permutation of open windows.

It's called a "standing wave" when air pressure waves from both sides collide in the cabin. Many cars do this when symmetrical sources of air are colliding. Lower one wind more than the other, or open the front windows a bit or close the rear windows half way or two thirds until you defeat the problem. Our old Jaguar has a little sign that read "close windows at speeds exceeding 120 mph." Going fast with open windows makes little sense in a cabin with small openings.

Ah!! Good to know! Thanks

Minor complaint: Attaching a child car seat to the center LATCH connectors blocks access to the seat belt connector for the two other rear passengers. I have to thread the window seat belt under the car seat strap in order to buckle.

Thanks everyone for this thread. I want to make it clear that I am very happy with my car. But these things listed below are something I am annoyed with. I wish mazda went an extra mile to make sure they did not happen.

Engine:
1) Gas mileage (I am averaging only 26-27mpg, conservatively driving. I was hoping for atleast 28), Note that I have the awd version.
2) At times, I find it hard to speed up fast, especially getting onto a fast highway while doing a clover turn

Exterior:
1) Driver side mirror vibration, I hope the tsb goes through and my dealer does the right thing and fixes this for me. I am not sure what the status is.
2) Hood vibration, I guess everyone is in the same boat here
3) One question I had, was the brochure listed mirrors as heated mirrors, does anyone know how the heated mirrors work? I dont see a switch for it

Interior:
1) Navigation
By far this is the most disappointing aspect for me. Its ironic, because I really like Tom Tom
- Voice control sucks
- Too many safety locks, this literally handcuffs you and makes driving actually dangerous vs safer...
- At times gps is unstable (The car marker moves around the screen)
- No weather support
- Supposedly not lifetime traffic
- POI's are not so great
- No compass
- Cannot add other services offered by TomTom
2) I have laid the back seats down a couple of times, Now i hear rattles in the back when I go over a rough patch of road.
3) There is a weird clicking noise from the dash somewhere once I speed up to 50+mph
4) The interior in general is very light weight, lots of scuffs and scratches already. I am not sure how I can protect from this happening.
-As you get out.. your feet tend to hit the bose speaker on the door, I have scuffs and scratches on the speaker from this
5) dead pedal missing

What kind of driving, city or highway, heavy city traffic or suburban, what mix?

The heated mirror are trigger when you use the rear window defroster.

Multiple people report the vibration hood problem. I find my hood to be rather secure with no movement/sound at all even on the highway. Do you guys hold the hood (same height as if it was held by the stand) and drop it? I notice some newer cars require you to literally slam the thing lol.

Udayse, have you updated the software on your SD Card? There was an update that restores the GPS signal. That could be causing your marker to jump around.

I think I've read you lower it to rest, then push it down. That's what I've done and it shuts properly. On some previous cars, I have had to drop them from a few inches.

Hi,
Thanks for the responses,
CX-SV, I am about 70% hwy (65-70mph)
Macksma, I did update my sd card. This was after my update.
Exspeedaway, Thank you for the answer about the heated mirror

Few other things that I thought of.
1) Interior
- It really bothers me that climate control is pretty much brain dead. Inspite of being able to set the temperature, I must always have to manage the fan to get the right setting, so basically its manual, not automatic climate adjust, the thermostat reading is just bling..
- I hate that my speedometer does not line up with gps speed. I dont know which one to believe. (Maybe a reason, for going to court for a ticket if I get one)
- For a bose stereo system, the sound is so so. I expected better sound quality
2) Engine/ ac:
- When I floor the gas a bit with the a/c turned on, I can actually feel the stress put on the a/c, the cold air stops for a couple of seconds and then turns back on. I am not sure if this is expected

Thanks
Uday

There have been other posts about this - worth a search - but basically, the speedo must never read lower than the 'real' speed. The gps is the more accurate (but has a small time lag). There is a maximum % difference legally allowed in many countries. I've had cars that have had the speedo reading between +1mph to +6mph, at about 60mph. With the speedo reading high, in a speed restricted zone, you wouldn't be above the speed limit.
